Windows 10: No audio output device is installed / No speakers or headphones are plugged in

I have been experiencing audio problems for the past few months, with a red x next to my audio. I have attempted to troubleshoot using the windows troubleshooter, but it just says it cannot find any audio device. In Device Manager, in sound, video, and game controllers, it says I have "Realtek R audio", but I think I used to have "High Definition Audio". I tried downloading it from both realtek and intel. It tells me to reboot my computer after installing, and after doing that it works for about a minute, but then for some reason windows deletes the new audio driver, and I cannot find it on

Win 10 - 2004 update - internal speakers but no headphones

Wired headphones. Usually when plugged in the audio to the internal speaker is cut-off and switched to headphone. When headphones are plugged in now this does not happen

"Audio input and output devices"

2 x Speakers (High Definition Audio Device)

No headphones listed

BTW this is true for 4 other Lenovo machines I have - no headphones listed

 

No Audio Output Device is Installed

You will need to select Windows 8 from the drop down list while installing the driver in compatibility mode.

I would suggest you to try setting the speaker as default audio output by following the steps below and check if it helps.

1. Right click on the sound icon on the right bottom corner of the taskbar.

2. Select "playback devices".

3. If "speaker" is not set as the default device, highlight it and click "set as default".

5. Save the changes.

No speakers or headphones are plugged in

My sound icon is showing a red X, and hovering on it shows "No speakers or headphones are plugged in". Plugging headphones in makes no difference. Troubleshooter says the "audio peripheral doesn't appear to be plugged in. check the connection", and right
clicking sound icon shows "Speaker setup (UNKNOWN)" and the only option it offers is OFF. Settings for sound show NO OUTPUT DEVICES FOUND. I have checked my headphone with the rear and front port jack points of the desktop.

Realtek HD Audio Manager shows a blank screen and say "To activate GUI, please plug in an audio device in the system."

Have checked bios. Audio is enabled in bios.

Device Manager for Sound, video and game controllers checked and it shows everything is working fine.

I have already Updated the latest audio driver from computer manufacturers site. Have tried installing and reinstalling the driver. Windows audio services restarted.
