  1. No Audio When Microphone Is In Use

Hi, I've recently built my new PC and installed Windows 10 Education since its offered free to me as a college student. I've had no problems with it so far except for an issue where when the microphone is in use (as in when there is a microphone icon in the bottom right corner), all other audio is muted. For example, if I am calling in discord and I activate my microphone, all other audio from other tabs, music programs, and games are muted. Even after i've joined a call, I can't hear anybody else on the other end. Oddly enough, they can hear me just fine.

I've determined it's a windows issue and tried updating any drivers in device manager but to no avail. There doesn't seem to be much history of anyone having these issues either. The microphone I'm using is on my headset, which is a Sony WH-h900n, which is connected via bluetooth to my computer. I've submitted a diagnostics report through windows but I'm hoping someone here can offer any advice that can help me out. Thanks!

No Audio When Microphone Is In Use

    Microphone issues

    Hi Michael,

Here are the possible reasons why you're getting an error "The microphone did not pick anything up" when using it:

    • Incorrect settings (microphone is not set as default device)
    • Corrupted or outdated driver
    • Faulty device

For us to isolate the issue, we'd like to know the following:

    • Were there any changes made to your computer prior to this issue(e.g. Windows updates)?
    • Have you tried connecting other microphone to your computer?
    • Have you tried connecting the microphone to the other computer?

In the meantime, we suggest running the Recording Audio Troubleshooter to find and repair problems with recording sound. We also suggest checking if your microphone is set as your default recording device. For troubleshooting steps, please see
    Geethu B's on this
    link.

We're looking forward to your reply.
