Windows 10: No Battery Is Detected error on ASUS Laptop

I have a recently purchased ASUS laptop as mentioned in title, and there seems to be issue after issue.

As mentioned in a previous thread, I had problems with my sound card popping a crackling. After updating my BIOS drivers, this fixed the problem.
Now I have a new problem.

Since updating the BIOS drivers, I've noticed that my battery icon shows an 'x' on the battery and says 'no Battery Is Detected' on mouseover. If I turn the computer off, disconnect the AC and try and turn it on again, it wont turn on at all.

I have tried going into Device Manager and uninstalling the two drivers under Battery and then reinstalling them, but this hasn't worked. I have seen solutions online that involve removing the battery and then adding it back, but the laptop I have appears to have a non removable, built in battery.

I have also tried uninstalling the "Microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery" and "Mirosoft AC adaptor" drivers, then restarting the computer. This worked to redetect the battery, but ONLY until the next computer restart, when the problem resurfaced.

What other options are available to me?

I just upgraded to Windows 10 from 7 and the battery I have was working just fine. It now shows “no battery is detected”.
Drivers are up to date and bios is flashed.
I refreshed the battery based on ASUS website instructions.
No change. Running on an ASUS U52F laptop.

The laptop not being able to turn on from the battery is a hardware issue. There may also be a software issue in Windows, but missing drivers etc, will not stop a laptop from booting up from the battery to the BIOS. You can boot to the BIOS with no OS installed. The battery has likely failed and needs to be replaced, or its fully discharged and not being recharged. It should charge even if the laptop is off, as long as the power pack is plugged in. My ASUS and my ACER laptops will charge the battery when powered off and plugged in. Is this a new or second hand device? If it's new, I'd return it.

 

It's a new device, two weeks old. There was NO problem at all with the battery or charging before I updated the BIOS last friday night. If I disconnect the AC while the computers turned on, there is no issue and the computer seems to act like there is a battery there.


In regards to returning it, I live in Japan and bought it from Amazon US, so while returning it is possible, it's extremely annoying and troublesome.

 

In fact I just disconnected it now and the battery icon changed to a battery icon, mosueover saying 'Unknown remaining'. If I click the battery icon it says 100% battery but also 'calculating'. So it IS able to run on battery in some respect.

 

Why did you update the BIOS? That's usually something you only do if you have to to fix an issue? So its working now? It sounds like it was fully discharged when you tried to boot up on battery that last time. You may have to run it on and off battery a few times for Windows to calculate how long it can be run on. To be honest, I don't know how Windows figures that stuff out. It may need a full charge cycle to calculate run time?

 

I updated the BIOS because I was getting speaker crackling, which according to LatencyMon was a driver issue related to power management. The BIOS update fixed that but as a result its what caused the battery issue.

Someone else pointed me to a website that showed me how to access this laptops battery, which wasn't easy. Involved removing the keyboard panel. Being able to access the battery meant I could do this fix:

Which worked perfectly and it appears the battery is happily detected and charging again.

So I'll mark this as solved and leave the info here, but thank you for the help all the same. Sorry to be a bother.

 

Glad you got it fixed. A BIOS update isn't a driver update by the way. They are two completely different things. BIOS is firmware, driver is software. They do interact with each other to some extent though.

I currently have the exact same problem with my Asus laptop. How exactly did you access the battery, as it is built in? I am willing to try almost anything, rather than taking my laptop to a service unit. Thank you!
