Windows 10: No display when attempting to use new video card.

Hello guys, recently I've gotten a Nvidia geforce gt 620 (newer than the onboard card graphics card with his also a Nvidia which is older I think?) it was given to me by my brother, and it's in good condition he didn't give me any cds or anything and I have it outside my computer at the moment,also for my problem.. I can't seem to get it to display anything I disable the onboard cards, restart the computer, the safe mode thing (stuff I google'd but had no luck..), is there a way I can get it to use the new video card? it won't detect it but inside the fan runs smoothly, any help would be appreciated also this is my first time attempting to installing a new video card thanks.

Interestingly, when switching to a new Memory Card, Toshiba 4GB, Class-4, MicroSDHC, the Videos in the "My Videos" folder on the Memory Card are now being displayed correctly in Video-Centre.

 

Windows 10 Free Upgrade and NVIDIA Problems

I've gotten the same message when attempting to upgrade to 10 - "NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 not compatible." I actually added a new video card that meets or exceeds 10 reqs, updated all drivers, and still getting same message. Why is it still looking
at the native integrated video card when I've upgraded to the new card?

 

Check and see if you Motherboard supports PCIe2.0 , if it is pretty old it may not or it may not support the 620 if the 620 uses only a UEFI GOP Driver to boot , ( no legacy bios support) so may not be supported on that MB either...

My usual method for swapping graphics cards:

--While using the old graphics, uninstall the graphics drivers.

--Power down the PC. Don't restart, or old drivers may re-install.

--Swap cards.

--Power up.

--Install the new drivers.

There may be problems getting this to work, though. The nVidia nForce 630a/ GeForce 7025 chipset is ancient, and nVidia doesn't offer drivers newer than for Win 7. From Gigabyte, it's the same. Not prime hardware for running Win 10.

 

Ah well, the older nvidia is an onboard, what I'm really wondering is it possible at all to get this working? I don't plan on buying a new computer yet so I want to make do with what I have if you know what I mean.

check the motherboard manual and see if it's possible and if it meets the specifications of the new card .....it may auto disable the onboard Card once another card is placed in a PCIe slot , but you may need to disable the OnBoard in the Bios or make other settings...

For what its worth I'm running a GT 610 on my old backup PC. Legacy BIOS, ASUS M2N68 with NVIDIA nForce 630a / GeForce 7025 chip set. I just put the card in and powered up. Onboard was automatically disabled. Same deal for my slightly newer M4N68 motherboard with the same chip set. I put a GT640 in that one. As far as I know neither one supports PCIe2.0, and I didn't have to change any BIOS settings. Just had to move my monitor cable over to the new video cards port.

 

Good to know Alpha ....I wonder if that means they are operating at PCIe x1 or x2 then ? instead of maybe x4 or x8.... ie they are ok for 2D and other normal stuff but wouldn't have the throughput for Gaming , which is the assumption I made here for the change of cards

They will only operate at "up to" what the motherboard supports. It's which ever is slower. If you plug a PCIe v1 card in a PCIe v2 motherboard you'll only get PCIe v1 speed. Weakest link in the chain. I game on that PC with no issues. I may not get the FPS somebody with a better system gets but my games are playable with no pauses or glitches.

 

I was thinking it maybe one of those cards that only has a UEFI GOP Bios like some 750ti Cards I've heard of , so won't work (boot) on a "legacy" system ( old style bios).

I would think a GT 620 would be way to old to just have UEFI. I've had my GT640 for many, many years now. My 610 is even older. 12+ years I'm thinking since I bought it?
