Windows 10: No internet connection after last security update.

Hi guys,


just installed the lastest security update (KB4512937). Since then I have no access to the internet despite the network shows access to the Internet. Reset does not help. I suspect some problem wit the firewall service.

The Windows Firewall service will not start with Error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start and is also not shown in settings.

Tried to restart the base filtering engine but that one is also producing error 87: the parameter is incorrect.

I am also not able to uninstall the update, the option is just not available.


Restarting the PC itself does not help and the troubleshooter shows no issues found.....

• Which update caused this issue? Share the KB number.
• What are the troubleshooting steps you have tried to resolve the issue?
• Have you installed any third party security software?

I would like to suggest try the methods below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Connect your PC directly to the Ethernet cable and check if you are able to receive Internet connectivity. If you are still unable to connect to the internet proceed to the next step.

Microsoft Edge TLS Security


After trying everything (not a lot of steps) listed in the Microsoft Edge support site, I did a wider search and found this very simple youtube video that fixed it immediately:

For those who prefer not to click links the steps are simple:

1. Click in the Cortana search bar next to the Win 10 Start button

2. Type internet options

3. Select internet options (control panel) from the list

4. Click on the advanced tab

5. Scroll down to the security section

6. Make sure the following are all clicked:
Use SSL 3.0
Use TLS 1.0
Use TLS 1.1
Use TLS 1.2

7. Click apply

8. Refresh the page that was giving the error and it should now connect.

Hope this helps, it was a 30 second fix after hours of pounding my head against the error with the Support site suggestions.
