  1. No longer able to dual boot win 10 and 8.1 ?

So I used to have windows 10 and windows 8.1 dual boot on my laptop pc.

However after a serious mistake I made, I ended up having to start fresh. with windows 10.

But now I can't install windows 8.1! It always says a needed driver is missing!

I tested my windows 8.1 iso in a virtual machine and it works, so it can't be corrupted.

I also made a new installation usb in case something was wrong with the old one and the same thing happens.

The only things I can see that might be the cause is that my BIOS was updated and I'm now using windows 10 1803.

I was previously dual booting with windows 10 1709 and 8.1. Could that be the problem?

    :)

No longer able to dual boot win 10 and 8.1 ?

    Dual Booting with Windows 8.1

The procedure below will allow you to boot Windows separately or in dual boot configuration.
Here's what I recommend to do:
    1. Disconnect the drive containing Windows 8.1
    2. Install Windows 10 with one drive connected.
    3. After step 2, reconnect the drive containing Windows 8.1
    4. Boot up Windows 8.1. Open disk management and take a note of the drive letter of Windows 10 OS.
NOTE: if you boot up Windows 10, then take a note of Windows 8.1 drive letter
    5. Open Admin command prompt and type: bcdboot X:\windows where X: is the drive letter of Windows 10 (Windows 8.1 if you boot from Windows 10 in step 4)
    6. Reboot the PC. You should have a dual boot screen.

NOTE: To break off the dual boot setting, Win+R->msconfig->boot and delete the none default entry on the list.

It would be unreasonable for MS to not allow Win 7/8 + 10 dual boot: This is a matter of retaining access and compatibility with much already owned software. A person receives no additional benefit to it beyond that - and that is a benefit that should stay with them. Using a license to install Windows 7, 8, and presumably 10 on a PC...
