  1. No Mail app notifications

OK so I've found the first app I like and have converged all my web mail boxes into the Mail app which is convenient and works well, though sometimes its hard to find the download links anywhere which forces me to the web version.

I get mail notification sounds on my phone but would also like them on the PC. I followed these Windows 8 tutorials for how to enable Toast and Sound mail notifications, but neither are working.
Mail App Email Notifications - Turn On or Off in Windows 8
Mail Notification Sound - Change in Windows 8
Toast Notifications - Enable or Disable in Windows 8

Anyone else have this problem? Any solution?

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Mail Not receiving notification banner & sound or in Action Center of new Mail

The MAIL APP is missing from Settings, in (Show notification from these APPS) and unable to turn on the notification.

I have set Mail Windows 10 as a default. In Mail setting I have set in notification in Action center to ON as well as checked the boxes for notification banner and sound.

The APPS that are showing bellow SHOW NOTIFICATION FROM THESE APPS are:

Calendar, Facebook, One Drive, Skype, Widows Feedback. (Mail APP is Missing)

How do I place this Mail APP in (Show notification from these Apps) To turn this notification to ON.?

    Thanks

  3. Not receiving notification on Windows 10 Mail App Notifications/Live Tile

Has anyone noticed that Windows 10 Mail App (for PC) notifications only work when the Mail app is left open and minimized to the taskbar? Same with the Mail Live Tile - it only updates when the mail app is open and minimized to the taskbar. Is this by
design? I wish Microsoft would address this issue. On Windows 8.1, mail notifications would appear even if the mail app was closed. Same with Windows Phone 10 - the mail notifications appear even when the mail app is closed.

  4. No Mail app notifications

    Try this:

Make sure that PC Settings - >Notifications -> Mail is ON

Make sure the mail account in the Mail app is set to notify.
The only way I could figure out how to get to settings was to click the message (to see older mail...go to settings".

According to the red letter info, Mail must also be a Lock Screen app. That probably shouldn't be required, IMO.

  6. Thanks Kari. I don't have notifications set for the Mail App (never in the Mail app settings) so I appreciate you testing it further. Guess it's feeding time for Win10 Preview.

  7. Not in 10 at the moment to check, but are there any options for this in the new notification centre

When I get a mail I get the original notification at the top right, but also get a duplicate notification the same at the bottom right coming from notification centre, so wondering if the new notifications is somehow blocking them for some people

  8. No Mail app notifications

I clicked Notification Center and see recent mail queued but it does not pop up at all so useless. I'd prefer a chime actually. If settings were working it appears I should be able to choose.

I definitely have Lock Screen disabled so wonder if that's the problem.

MS needs to hear that a Lock Screen is not a desirable feature on a desktop, strictly a tablet or phone feature IMO.

    79 don't want it, now 80.

BTW we cannot count on all-powerful telemetry to tell them how many users disable lock screen or anything else, since we learned recently that they never saw how many users added Start menu on 8.

I disagree, very strongly. My desktops and laptops (no tablets) are all set to lock after 5 minutes inactivity. I need and a want have the lock screen kicked in when this happens.

Again one of those things I think should not be presented as "I do not want this feature ergo no one wants it, it must be taken away".

  10. Kari, did you see you just quoted me saying that "IMO"? *Wink

I see a conflict with some app settings like Inactivity Timeout carrying over when the desktop is given resurgence, since a billion MS Customers already know how to timeout to their password screen in Power Options.

I found fairly easy ways on the web to disable Lock Screen and Inactivity Timeout but this reminds me of how we had to import a Start menu into Windows Eight. Desktop users IMO don't want to be inconvenienced like this with unintuitive duplications of already accepted features.

But something fixed it because just now as I'm pounding out this reply I get a popup and chime for new mail. *Smile

Not any more. It's a great feature of the 8 series also. *Wink

  12. OK, correct that: I have one of my Outlook mail accounts giving pop-up and sound notification, not the other Outlook or my primary Yahoo account. So it looks like a bug.

Is there another way to report a bug than the feedback app which seems more general?

Double check your mail app settings:
    Launch the Mail App
    Click the tridots (...)
    select settings

    Mail App settings -> Permissions:

PC Settings -> Search and Apps -> Notifications:

I set all notifications on in all of the places I could find and get no notifications from the Mail app anywhere!

Your machine / install might behave differently I'm running Win10 in a Hyper-V machine.

Try the TP forum - use the Windows Topics drop down box to navigate to a category, then select the sub-category from the drop down box.

  14. All of those are set correctly including when one clicks on each Account in the Mail app Accounts section.

I just got a popup from my main Yahoo Mail so maybe it decided to work. I'll have to see how irregular it is. I do like the pause in the popup so I can click it to open Mail. This improves Windows for me over what I've ever had with webmail.

  15. I'm chalking this up to a flaky build (9860) or just the Tech Preview itself.

One of us should give feedback on the issue - I'll 'me too' yours if you've already submitted feedback.

The same thing happened on my machine - shortly after posting the Mail app settings screen shot (no changes were made - I just opened the settings and grabbed the screen shot), I saw a 1 on the Mail app tile on the Start Screen. There's another oddity - the Mail app is a live tile, but I cannot turn live tile off on the Start Screen for the Mail app.

I signed out to check the Lock screen notification (network icon was there) - nothing for Mail app though!

I previously submitted feedback about Start Screen Lock (user icon - lock) ... it presents the login screen, not the lock screen. Other feedback re: lock states a solid color lock screen is presented. I figured this is an early build so some things might not be tied together very well and decided to see if the Start Screen-User Icon-Lock would force the Mail app notification. It did ... but I got the solid color lock screen others reported, not the lock screen image.

I think the integration of WinPhone features makes this build (9860) shaky - the zPC settings might be the culprit here, rather than Mail app or notifications. I read another thread (sorry no link) that stated explicitly the use of zPC settings (not PC settings) was required to actually apply a setting and have it stick. Unfortunately I don't even recall the issue for that 'solution'.

It's possible that just going into the Mail app settings flipped a bit or something making notifications work. You said it just started working after you checked all of your settings and that's pretty much what happened on my machine - look at settings and notifications magically begin working.

Bottom line: Mail app notification is working on my VM after a very convoluted set of steps. There is still an issue with Notifications on the Lock Screen - but there are other issues with Lock screen too.

I would not setup up any notifications for the Lock screen on my machine. For me, the lock screen is a 'cover' that prevents other people passing by (or snooping at my desk) from seeing what is running on my machine. It's like closing a book, you can see the cover, but not read the inside. To have my work or activities displayed on the Lock screen goes against my concept of locked. No one needs to know about my mail, network status, or any other background process when my screen is locked.
