I'm guessing you're here because you have an error popping up whenever you open a program that says "No mapping between Account Names and Security ID's was done" and you like me have searched across the web for a solution to bring your account and possibly entire PC back.

Well I have a solution that worked for me and hopefully for you aswell. It is super easy and most likely the best solution on the internet

    SOLUTION UNDER THIS PARAGRAPH

Before you try to apply this solution in your own case I want to clarify how I encountered this problem in the first place, I encountered it by changing my sole Administrators account's username, not the display name, the username which acts as the ID for the account and if changed can orphan your account and its files and cause it to become dysfunctional. The mistake I made was using the very account I was changing to change the account's ID which obviously orphaned it I changed it using netplwiz through win + R. After realizing what I've done I quickly re-opened netplwiz to change my user name back to what it was before the name of the folder in C:\Users\MyUser however it didn't show up in the results! If it did for you change it back to the original username then restart. But I fixed it and now I will show you EXACTLY how I fixed so you can save years out of your life.

    1. First press Win + X then open Windows Powershell Admin Website I used: https://winaero.com/create-user-account-windows-10-powershell/

    2. Then type in these commands in the following order:

New-LocalUser -Name "user_name" -Description "Description of your new account." -NoPassword

...END OF CODE The text between the quotation marks are asking you what username and description you want Add any userame not the last one it doesn't matter since you'll change it later

    Then

    Add-LocalGroupMember -Group "Administrators" -Member "user_name"

Type the username that you used in the last command in "user_name" and do not change the "Administrators or you will most likely lose all authority over your device.

    3. Once you finished with Windows PowerShell you simply press Win + R then type in netplwiz and you will hopefully see the new user you have created If it didn't work try doing the 2 steps before again to make sure you did it correctly and use the website I sent in case

    4. Click on the new user you added from PowerShell > Properties > Then type in the LAST USERNAME you had before you received the "No mapping between Account names and security ID's was done" error when your laptop was normal or the remaining user folder name in C:\Users

    5. Then it will ask you to restart if not do it manually BUT WAIT, before you do it please make sure the user is an Administrator because if not you cannot have control over your Device, if it isn't, redo the Windows PowerShell steps just right above.

    6. Restart and use the account with the name you used before all of these problems happened, login just like normal and there! Hopefully it is back to normal, if not use the other accounts you saw and see which one was the right one annnd agaain if all of them doesn't work retry the steps.

    Finished!

I hope this worked for you all and if not after several tries, I am so sorry this hasn't worked for you since I cannot help you any further because I am not a tech support assistant and I don't have a profound idea on how windows errors can occur and how to solve them, however, if it worked for you, please tell me!

    Asalam Alaykum,

Explorer.exe No mapping between account names and security ids

Recently I was trying to convert my Windows 10 user account to be a local account from a Microsoft Account. Doing so it failed with error 0x80070002. Now when I try to open control panel, settings, etc, I can't open them and only responds with a message of "No mapping between account names and security ids."

I'm guessing while it was changing stuff when converting to a local account it never reverted its actions when it failed. I haven't gone through my way to log out of this account as I'm not even sure if I will be able to log back in.
