    No more updates to original Win 10 version 1507/10240 after 26 March?

    Have I interpreted this correctly?

    https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/windowsitpro/2017/01/19/windows-10-v1607-media-now-available

    I think this means that updates will stop for the original Windows 10 RTM version 10240, at least for business users? Presumably this will apply to consumers as well?

    I know that consumer machines should have automatically upgraded themselves beyond this version already, but this doesn't always work.

    For instance I have a device with a small disk (supposedly 32GB, in practice nearer 30GB) which doesn't have enough disk space to upgrade itself automatically without me manually intervening. Mine is on 1511 but I assume there will be other similar devices which are stuck on 10240.

    Will such devices stop updating after 26 March? Or have I misunderstood?

    :)

  2. I want to keep windows 10 version 10240.

    Then it's a good thing that 10240 isn't version 1507, but 1511. No more updates to original Win 10 version 1507/10240 after 26 March? :)

    Why Microsoft forced Windows 10 upgrades [on Friday, 20 January 2017]

    Why Microsoft forced Windows 10 upgrades last Friday

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Support for Win10 "version 10240" [AKA 1507; AKA RTW] ends on 26 March 2017. When that happens, your computer will NOT be offered ANY further updates (security-related or otherwise). That being said...
    When the install of "1607" fails, what error number is listed in your Update History?
  4. No more updates to original Win 10 version 1507/10240 after 26 March?
    I do believe that any system (Business or Consumer) will cease to see any updates including security fixes, etc. And yes if your device is still on 10240, no more fixes or updates.
    Makes sense, we've had 2 Version Upgrades since then and looking at a possible new 1703 Upgrade. My only issue will be with vendors still selling new computers come March with that old Version installed [have had to do 3 in the last 4 months], the only cost to get them up to date being their employees applying the later Versions.
  6. Yes this will open up some really interesting problems concerning INVENTORY ! Since most manufactures do not maintain a large volume of finished products, most of the issues will be at the retail/distributor level.
    The original Windows 10 will just update to the current build when it is connected to the internet.
    this is a good thing cause everyone should be on 1607. microsoft instead of trying to force peeps to use their drivers should be pushing peeps to the latest build of 10 14393.693, AND leave the driver updating to the enduser.
    I'd love to have Upgrades install in less than an hour but most of my clients don't have Internet speeds to support it. At least most are no longer on phone-line dial-up.
  11. Yes I agree with you but I have seen several posts where when some post they are on the old version and they have refused to upgrade to the latest version.
    Myself on all systems I look after as soon as a new update or upgrade becomes available to the public I bring them all up to date.
    problem with that is where drivers are concerned microsoft forces you to use what they have instead of the latest by the hardware vendor. nvidia is a prime example.
    yes they show up as being by the vendor but microsoft chooses which version of the vendor's driver you are allowed to have.
