  2. The only question I need answering is what will be available to replace MS Office 2007 next year?

And please do not tell me it is Office 365 .....

    :)

  3. If/when I upgrade to Windows 10 from Win 7 Pro and/or 8.1, will I still be able to use Office 2007 products?

Office 2007 should work fine on Windows 10.

I have not seen anything official, but I recall posts in these forums about people trying it out in the previews.

Office 2007 is still 'supported' through October 10, 2017.

How can I get back to Anniversary Update?

    You sure?

Last I saw posted, Anniversary Edition would be supported long term ONLY for devices with the unsupported processors.

Like: Microsoft agrees to extend support deadline for Clover Trail PCs | ZDNet

Update 19-July-2017: Microsoft has acknowledged this issue and has agreed to extend the support deadline, delivering security updates
    for affected devices until 2023.

For details, see Microsoft agrees to extend support deadline for Clover Trail PCs.

As part of our commitment to customers, we will be offering the Windows 10 Anniversary Update to these Intel Clover Trail devices on Windows 10, which we know provides a good user experience. To keep our customers secure, we will provide security updates
to these specific devices running the Windows 10 Anniversary Update until January of 2023, which aligns with the original Windows 8.1 extended support period.

    (“OEM”) support period . . . "

Got a web link showing the support extension covers everyone running Anniversary update and not just those with unsupported hardware (specifically Clover Trail) . . . as opposed to just saying it? ;-)

Your copy of Office 2007 will be available next year and will work for as long as you need it.

Just the support is stopping, the product will still work as well as it always did, if you have a problem however you will no-longer be able to pay Microsoft to sort it out for you.

This is normal in the planned usage lifeline of this, (and all Microsoft, (and other developers), products, Office 2000 has not been fully supported for some time now and has only been receiving security updates which will also stop next year

For a home user with a decent security routine, (firewall, Anti-Virus, Anti-malware, Good web practice), it should be safe to use, even without the security updates, for any new vulnerabilities discovered.

If you are running a business on Office 2007, although your are strongly advised to upgrade to a later supported version, you should be able to manage but may need to find a private contract IT specialist for support required.

If it is simply a case of financial restraints applying to a new Microsoft office - there are a number of supported Free Alternatives to Microsoft Office available, which often duplicate the older layout and functionality of products like Office 2007

I think he's complaining about the subscription type license of it.

And there's this Office 2016 that was made for people who don't like to pay yearly.

  9. Agree with you what is wrong with them I find they are both the best ones so far and the only ones that all my printers can print from without using a third party app like I used to have to.
Well worth the £5.99 a month

  10. Thank you for all the replies.

I do not like the whole concept of Office 365, because previous experience with such services has been bad. I want a product that is installed on my PC from a medium that I control and can re-install whenever I wish to and is thus guaranteed to work off line. Anything that is dependent on an Internet connection being available is unacceptable, simply because in the environment I work in I do not have guaranteed Internet access all the time. Maybe my understanding of what Office 365 offers is not that good?

So it is Office 2016? That sounds like what I will want to get. Is there any talk of a new version coming out next year?
2007 has served me extremely well up until now. All I need to do is understand what the upgrade path is.

Office 365 is just the subscription version of Office 2016 and installs locally on your PC.

  12. Thank you for the info much appreciated.

I have a clear idea of what to do October next year.

(unless of course financial muscle power has prevailed on MS to extend support for 2007 by then !*chuckle

I don't yet use office 365, but I do subscribe to Adobe Creative cloud photography package and this means that rather than pay out hundreds of pounds every three years or so to have the latest features I pay around $10 a month and in the last three years since the release of photoshop CS6, I have had at least three major updates and many minor ones. For less than the cost of CS6 and get lightroom for free. The subscription model can work better than the older system and although the applications have features that need net access the main programs work fine without

When really thinking about it the $99.99 per year cost would take only about 3 or 4 years to equal the up-front cost of the "more-featured" versions of Office we've had to pay before and a large number of users tend to upgrade about that same type interval. I find the only real downside of Office 365 is having to be connected to the 'net at least monthly to keep it updated, have had to help one traveler to get logged back into the Office site when he returns to his Desktop, no issue with his Notebook he takes with him.

I think I'm entitled to a seat of office 365, if so I may load it on my system that crashed yesterday rather than my normal office 2016i was intending to use.
Will be a useful experiment if nothing else *Wink
