No Option to Pin to Start

Hey guys. no matter what I try, I'm unable to pin to start - this is the standard 10240 build. Win 10 Pro (my desktop)

I believe I had the ability to pin in the past but now all of a sudden it just doesn't exist.

Even if I drag is shows a circle with a cross through it.. Any ideas here?

No option to pin apps to taskbar or uninstall apps

dism completed successfully and sfc /scannow did not find any violations, still those options do not show up. Another issue I have with apps is that they crash on opening, photos app crashes and twitter.

  3. No option to pin apps to taskbar or uninstall apps

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

    • Open an Administrator CMD window. If you can’t find a way, use these steps:

      • Press CTRL+Shift+ESC to open Task Manager.

      • Click File > Run New Task

      • Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges”

      • Type CMD

    • Type the following commands at the CMD prompt:

      dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

      sfc /scannnow

Then try to check if you find the option by right clicking on any app.

Let us know the status of the issue.

No Option to Pin to Start

I think you need to drag it from the "All Apps" list to the start and wiggle it a round a little, until Bill's minions, get the clue as to what you're trying to do and then expand it into a tile. I've not tried dragging from the "Most Used" list and I'm not currently on my 10 machine to try it, but logic tells me that it "SHOULD" work from there also, but it is, after all, Windows! There have certainly been more glaring errors released in the past!*Rolleyes

HI Gene! I have two machines and I was able to try what you said on one and it works great. the other (the system with the issue) I'm not sure. I'll have to test that later today.. I'll let you know what I find but something tells me that it won't work.

  6. Also try and make them smaller you may find they work better then, just resize them

Right click on what you want will move it to start then resize it

  8. No Option to Pin to Start

Seems like a bug or some thing not installed properly.
The image I posted is with them all resized, you did right click and try it.
Also don't forget I don't have IE11 installed or CROME

Hi, I'm finding the same issue. And just posted a slight variation of it. I'm coming to the conclusion it's been missed out properly in windows 10. It seems to keep some legacy parts from win7 update and not implement the feature itself i windows 10.

  10. Did you upgrade from 7, that could be the reason.
If our posted upgraded from 7 or 8 then we may have found the problem.
I upgraded from windows 8.1 and down sized them in that OS as well.

  12. Think we may have found the answer.
    Windows 8.1.
Think if you and OP had of gone to 8.1 Then 10 you and him might of been able to get them smaller.
My laptop came new with 8.1 on it.
In the old control panel if I want to go back (which I don't) I am only able to go back to windows 7.
Hope I have helped hopefully clear up what the problem is, and hope soon they come up with a fix for it.

No Option to Pin to Start

Don't think so, I can resize the tiles, but get the no entry sign if dragging to the start menu.

  14. Have you tried right click on what you want and it should come up
    Pin To Start,
    Pin To Taskbar,
    Uninstall.
All I did was at first pin to taskbar.
Then done pin to start and then resized them.

  15. Try this
    Open up the Action Centre
    Enable tablet mode
Try and Pin anything to the start menu (hopefully it works)
    Open Action Centre
    Turn off tablet mode

    Now try again

I have seen it before where going into tablet mode, doing something, then coming out fixes issues with the menu
