Windows 10: "No Sound Card Was Found"

Earlier today my computer was fine. I was playing a game, my speakers were working, everything was hunky-dory.

About three hours ago I went to watch YouTube and surprise! My audio wasn't working. I tried using my headphones at first, then my speakers. Neither worked. I looked to the bottom of my screen to see a red X above the audio icon. I right click and see this:



So of course I go to Google. Everything I looked at says to update my driver. I tried going to Device Manager>Sound, Video and Game Controllers, which is where the audio driver would usually be found. But lo and behold, the only things that show up are my bluetooth headset and earbuds:



And again in the playback devices, the driver or speakers could not be found:



I went online to find the audio driver for my specific computer (Acer Aspire A515-51) and found I needed a Realtek audio driver (version 6.0.1.8451). I downloaded the driver, installed it, and restarted my computer. Nothing happened.

I ran dxdiag.exe and went into the Sound tab. In the window at the bottom it said "No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer."


I have had this laptop for not quite a year. I haven't installed any updates recently; I am using Windows 10 version 1803. I need an answer. What happened to my audio driver and how can I fix it????

Good surround sound headset

I know you say you're not that guy, but stepping into the $250+ range really brings a change in build quality that might have you never having to buy another set. Otherwise, getting 6 speakers with decent sound in a headset is hard, and that's what you are asking for, and I have no suggestions, but just a bump up the list. *Stick Out Tongue

 

Sound Card Cannot be found on ACER aspire E5-511P


"sound card cannot be found". Does the Device Manager list it, and with an error? Or is it no listed in the Device Manager?
If its not listed at all, that suggests the BIOS is not detecting it or there is a BIOS error. Windows will not detect it if the BIOS does not.

You can try a BIOS reset and see if that helps, if its not being detected by the BIOS.
