Windows 10: No sound from headphone jacks after Windows 10 Creator Update

After Windows 10 updated with the Creators Update last night, my earbuds now have no sound. (They were fine yesterday.)

They plug into the laptop's 3.5 mm headphone jacks. I've unplugged and plugged into both of the available headphone jacks.
If I unplug the earbuds, the sound is fine out of the laptop's speakers.
The earbuds work fine with another device. I've tried another set of earbuds.
The sound isn't muted and the level is not set low.
I've tried a number of output types (iTunes, Youtube, the PC warning sounds themselves), and none come through the earbuds.
I've looked for driver updates (none available) and have done the sound troubleshooting.

Any ideas?

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

My Acer Aspire Switch 10 recently installed the Windows 10 Fall Creator update and after it was done I lost all sound on my laptop not even the headphone jack works I checked my "drivers" and they're all fine and up to date does anyone know how to fix this?

Automatic switching between headphones and laptop speakers not working since upgrade to Windows 10

I have an Asus K52F laptop. I have recently upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7.

Prior to the upgrade:

(a) If I did not have headphones plugged into the front jack, sound would come through the laptop speakers.

(b)When I had plugged headphones in, the laptop speakers would turn off and the sound would come through the headphones.

That was and is the desired behaviour.

Since upgrading to Windows 10, the only way to change the sound from laptop speakers to headphones and back is to go into the Sound properties and set the default to the desired output device. Plugging headphones into the jack, and removing the plug from
the jack does not alter the sound output device automatically.

Any thoughts about how I can restore the desired, automatic behaviour?

Note: I do not have Realtek installed.

What I have already tried:

- Drivers were checked using Windows Update and are up to date.

- Windows 10 troubleshooting had no effect.

- Yes, I am plugging the headphones into the the correct jack

- Yes, the headphones work and the speakers turn off when I manually change the default sound output device to headphones

The Creator's build seems to use a different reference driver database to that used for the Anniversary build. Having the latest greatest drivers (according to Uncle MS) may not necessarily be the answer, but the problem.

Just one possibility...

I did nothing more after I posted this, but it somehow healed itself overnight. Today they're fine. So, sign me:

Happy but puzzled.

 

I had similar issues with the creators update so that I had to uninstall the creators update. My sound drivers were completely messed up and I no longer had 7.1 sound no matter what I did including uninstalling and installing the latest sound drivers. I'm still waiting for a fix before I do the update again.

 

Self healing computers... now that would be great! *chuckle

- you may need to use the version of the drivers that last worked for you. As you apparently have a working configuration with the Anniversary build, save your current driver, and make a note of its version.

Then, as and when you (have to) upgrade - you can compare the version.
