Windows 10: No sound from speakers/headphones

It just stopped working randomly last week. No update nothing. I've also tried a clean install of windows and still no audio.

Here's a picture of my device manager.

 

Disable everything except the Realtek audio (even if you are using HDMI, if you are not using HDMI audio it an be disabled) in the Sounds section and then see if the rear or headset audio works. May be one of the other devices is holding it up. (this is best for troubleshooting, eliminate any potential, which could confuse the issue). You may have to restart after doing this.

 

That Bluetooth thingy may be a problem.

 

Bluetooth audio is working fine

 

But may be muting speaker output.

 

I will Disconnect my Bluetooth and try again tomorrow

 

Just disable them in the Device Manager as I noted. You don't have to "disconnect".

 

I've disabled everything apart from the realtek high definition audio and still I have no audio.

 

That would suggest one of two things. Either a problem with Windows, which would require a complete reinstall, or a hardware problem with the sound chip.

You may want to give the Dell users forum (desktop section) one last try.

Try uninstalling the Driver by searching device manager and opening the app the go on Audio Inputs and Outputs right click on Speaker/Headphone (Retalk) and select uninstall. Windows will automatically try to install this. WARNING: DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK

 

Elias, if you read the entire thread, you would have seen the user has already uninstalled the driver, used the generic Windows driver, etc.

In the end I just replaced the motherboard. It was cheaper to buy a motherboard off ebay than to buy a new sound card.
