Windows 10: No speakers or headphones are plugged in

It's my second time having this no audio problem ever since I updated to windows 10. I have never experienced this problem before a certain windows 10 update (I don't remember which). If I recall correctly, I fixed it the first time by updating the sound driver and then rolling it back to the version i originally had. I have the AMD High definition audio device driver.

The things I've already tried to no avail are:

• deleting the driver and restarting
• updating the driver (still AMD, but more recent version from drivereasy) and restarting
• updating the driver, restarting, then rolling back the driver then restarting
• manually choosing "High Definition Audio Device" for updating the driver, then restarting
• Scanning for hardware changes in device manager
• Disabling services to check if anything is affecting my audio in clean boot
• cmd sfc /scannow fix
• cmd net localgroup fix
• downloading realtek drivers (device manager won't install it, only a "You already have the best drivers for your device" pop-up)
• Clean boot troubleshooting
• DxDiag.exe with note "No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer."

The playback tab of the sound window from the taskbar icon only shows 1 - Digital Display Audio, AMD High Definition Audio Device, Not Plugged In. I only have "AMD High Definition Audio Device" and "CyberLink WebCam Virtual Driver" under my sound, video, and game controllers. I also have an HP 15 notebook if that helps.

I don't know if there is anything else to do. Any help is deeply appreciated. ):

Speakers playing when headphones are plugged in


I have an HP laptop with windows 10. When my headphones are plugged in, the speakers are still playing. When I go to sounds, the only device listed is the speakers. How can I silence the speakers when the headphones are plugged in.

Is the issue specific to only Headphones/ Does External Speaker play when plugged in?

I suggest you to try resetting the default device as shown in the steps given below and check if the issue persists.

  Plug in the Headphones in the machine.
  
• 
  Go to Start and Control Panel.
  
• 
  Select 'Hardware and Sound'.
  
• 
  Click 'Change system sounds'.
  
• 
  Click 'Playback' tab. (It should then show you your headphones in the list).
  
• 
  Select your proper Headphone device from the list, then Click 'Set Default'.
  
• 
  Now unplug your Headphones and select speakers from the list, then Click 'Set Default'.
