Windows 10: no speakers or headphones are plugged in

Hi there can anyone help me with my sound issue please?

My system windows 10 doesn't seam to be recognizing my speakers when it was about a week ago now. I'm getting the message no speakers or headphones are plugged in but all my connections are ok and been checked over and over. I've tried all the messing about with the drivers and also tried legacy hardware. I'm totally lost with this it was working fine my system went to sleep then when I woke it up again it wasn't recognizing my speakers. my motherboard it gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P I'm wondering if I should maybe try installing an older version of windows? However it worked fine before with what I'm using.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

Speakers playing when headphones are plugged in

I have an HP laptop with windows 10. When my headphones are plugged in, the speakers are still playing. When I go to sounds, the only device listed is the speakers. How can I silence the speakers when the headphones are plugged in.

Is the issue specific to only Headphones/ Does External Speaker play when plugged in?

I suggest you to try resetting the default device as shown in the steps given below and check if the issue persists.

• 
  Plug in the Headphones in the machine.
  
• 
  Go to Start and Control Panel.
  
• 
  Select 'Hardware and Sound'.
  
• 
  Click 'Change system sounds'.
  
• 
  Click 'Playback' tab. (It should then show you your headphones in the list).
  
• 
  Select your proper Headphone device from the list, then Click 'Set Default'.
  
• 
  Now unplug your Headphones and select speakers from the list, then Click 'Set Default'.
