Windows 10: No thumbnails showing for some video files

Recently my computer has stopped showing thumbnails for some video files, including MOV and MP4. I've tried a couple of suggested things but nothing seems to be able to bring them back, it's quite frustrating. I wonder if anyone had any ideas please? Thank you so muchI also had an issue where they wouldn't open and I was getting a pop up saying 'Class not registered' which seems to be resolved now touch wood, but I am not sure if this is related

Many thanks for you reply. I have done all the steps you suggested, but no change,

When I open a folder containing photos, some open correctly but the vast majority open with thumbnails, but they very quickly get overwritten and you can not longer see the thumbnails.

Are there any more suggestions?

 

VLC not showing thumbnails view of Video File


VLC is not showing thumbnails view of video files. My Video files are generally flv. I have not checked whether it is showing thumbnails for other type of video files or not.
