    Noisy hard drives

Hello *Smile I have 2 hard drives. One of them is very noisy when powered on. I can feel my desk vibrating when its reading. (I think its dying) Its around 6 years old, so Im expecting it to stop working soon. My other drive is also abit noisy but not as bad as the first one. (The other drive is 3 years old) But anyway, is it any way to manually turn off hard drives without unplugging them? Power saving helps, but they always seem to turn on again after a while. It it any software on the internet that can put hard drives into a power saving mode that it cant wake up from unless I want it to?

    :)

  2. Recycle Bin on another drive

I did not have this problem before plugging in an external hard drive to the main PC. The recycle bin is now allocated to this drive for some reason. No problem you might say but it is a problem inasmuch, it does not open immediately and I have to wait at
least 20 seconds to access it whilst the external hard drive fires up. I have tried changing it to C drive in the recycle bin properties but it won't stay there. I do not leave the external drive running permanently as it is noisy and I don't use it that much
other than to store stuff. Why has the bin allocated itself to this drive and how on earth do I rectify it?

    Thanks in advance.

    Noisy hard drives

I would replace them while you can still access the data. I don't know if you do this or not but if not I suggest keeping backups on a external drive for extra safety. *Smile

I have a backup just in case *Smile But I was hoping to avoid a replacement, but it seems like it is the smartest thing to do now before corrupted files comes. Thanks for the answer!

Good call, Joakia: Whenever hard disks start making noise, outright device failure or head crash is seldom far behind. If not accompanied by immediate failure (head crash) it usually means spindle bearings are wearing out. Copy the contents and replace them as soon as you possibly can.
