Each cumulative update includes all the fixes from the previous ones, so you just need the latest one if/when it finally manages to install.

I'm afraid I'm off to bed now, sounds like you could do with a good night's rest too *Smile

ended up contacting support again. cleared temp files, clean booted, then had to do an in place upgrade. downloading the windows media tool .iso. at least i have a fast connection and pc.

I'm all up to date now. everything seems to be working fine. Tks again for getting me going in right direction Bree.

    now i can finally sleep!!

That would have been my third suggestion, my first two would have been sfc /scannow and dism's 'restorehealth'. An in-place repair upgrade often works wonders where those two have failed.

Glad you're up and working now *Smile

You know whats weird. IN the news they keep saying a 20% cpu utilization increase and loss in performance. But i've seen a huge inrease in performance? First with my bios and chipset updates I noticed games running better, now with the OS update windows is running better then ever. Gotta take everything I read with a grain of salt nowadays.

The 'loss of performance' hit depends entirely on what you use the system for. Enterprise servers seem most affected, I see no significant change on my laptop.

Oh I see. I also have a fast NVME drive, so maybe thats another factor. I don't even use sata anymore. Gaming boards are also usually the most supported and maybe it depends on how optimized the manufacturers bios and chipset drivers are I bet.

But I'm noticing a HUGE increase in performance. Its just very ironic to me. For example when I use to get 40 fps in Elder Scrolls Online, I now get 60! I noticed the smoothness immediately. That was just from the bios and chipset drivers. Now after updating windows, My windows is booting up in an instant! Even loading the desktop super fast. Faster then it ever did before and feels way more responsive. I'm still a little in shock over it lol.

Maybe my windows was more messed up then I thought, but the bios and chipset updates alone increased performance. Although, they did also fix some other bugs I had reported to them so maybe some other things going on. Asus has made me a big fan now. They released the patch on the 4th I think same day the news broke.

I bet people running virtual machines are the ones having performance loss. Because these attacks I feel would be targeted towards them the most, and they have the least support.
