Windows 10: Not recognising any USB devices

Discus and support Not recognising any USB devices in Windows 10 Drivers and Hardware to solve the problem; Thanks for the tip about Sieber's great toolsuite. I used it as the focus for my post to the Windows Enterprise Desktop blog this morning: DriveCleanup... Discussion in 'Windows 10 Drivers and Hardware' started by binks, Jul 1, 2017.

That is quite unfortunate and leaves me dry of any other idea/s.. But I just wanted to confirm whether you right-clicked on the correct DriveCleanup.exe (32bit or 64bit as per your system) and more importantly whether you ran it as an administrator. If you do not run as administrator, it will only show you what devices and other unwanted items it can remove, but will not remove.

Please see EdTittel's post above and also read his blog mentioned therein. He went the commandline way and found it useful. You may perhaps try the command line route. ( I am always jittery to go the command line way - not a geek but still a power user*Biggrin Ha, haa... new badge, thanks to Ed)

Thank you EdTittel for the nice blog that should prove helpful for many. I have been using drivecleanup regularly since version 0.8 and it has helped many when none of the USB drives were showing since the drive letters were locked to non-existent drives.

@jumanji Yes, for sure I run it with admin privilages(run as administrator) and yes, I definetly run correct .exe file(I have 64bit Windows so I run x64 DriveCleanup.exe)

After running DriverCleanup, press the Windows key+X and choose Command Prompt (Admin) in the Command Prompt type SFC /scannow and press enter. This will replace any missing system files, like those used for USB devices.

Please post information about your computer: manufacturer, model, notebook, desktop, ram. disks, etc.
When was the last time you updated the bios and or the drivers?

Did all that, even followed the article you mentioned, though I think this not applies to me as it guides you how to solve the issue when you plug something via USB and you have prompt that unrecognised device blablabla, and I just don't have it. I plug, let's say, my phone, and I can't see it in windows explorer at all and the phone just registering that some source of power has been plugged in. That's all. If I have prompt about the unrecognised device, that would be a progress in my case. But I don't even have that*Sad

My Pc, not that I think it has anything to do with the issue at hand as usb worked with current config and now it doesn't -
    CPU: AMD FX-6300
    Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A-DS3P
    Ram: 16GB DDR3 from HyperX
    GPU: Nvidia GTX 970

This is what I would try..
    I'd go into Device Manager
Go to Universal Serial Bus controllers
    Uninstall all the items there
    Restart the computer
When it starts back up again, I'd go back to Device Manager
Then on top, click Action > Scan for hardware changes (Technically speaking, Uninstalling all those drivers should reinstall them once again, yet I haven't uninstalled a whole section of drivers before. Sounds a little iffy, but technically speaking they should update-install themselves right back)

Update. I've just done what you suggested and as you can see in the pic below, while uninstalling all those Standard OpenHCD USB host controllers was quite quick and easy, when I tried to uninstall those USB Root Hub it stuck on this uninstall screen for a good 30 min. The after that time I just manually restarted PC. But because again, it stuck on this blue screen when it says Restarting for 30 min and I got fed up wit it, I just did hard restart. After this, the result is like before. So no USB devices when I plug them at all*Sad

Hmm... sorry that you had to deal with waiting for that long when you tried to restart. (Keep in mind if that ever happens for longer than a few minutes, just go ahead and do a hard reset. Except for if your computer says it's doing updates, you let it restart on its own for those).

But lemme look around some more and see what I can find that can hopefully fix this.

Keep your hopes up bro *Smile

Thx for that cause this inability to transfer files between my devices starting to get annoying. Fortunately(for this issue) I've got sick note now, and I don't go to work every day. But in a week it will end.... And then I still won't be able to fully do my job cause I can't transfer some %$£"@)(*^ files...?

    Let's try this:

    Open Computer Settings
Click on Update & security at the bottom
On the left side press Troubleshoot
    Press Hardware and Devices
    Press Run the troubleshooter button

    See what happens

Also try pressing the Power option and go through that fix

I already tried that. Troubleshoot but instead from settings, I run it from the control panel. It's the same thing as this one in settings is just an "applet" for the one in control panel. I also tried power. As it was advised in this previous article, check(or uncheck, I don't remember now) fast boot, save power, blablabla.
    No effect*Sad
