I've got no idea what's going on here. I downloaded driver, the right one(at the top of the installer even reads "VIA XHCI HOST Controller Software Package V4.90A" and I have the same stop message.

Sorry you're having so much trouble with this. The only thing left I can think of is to ...
    1. Go into BIOS and make sure the USB3 ports are enabled (you never did say if you did this)
    a. XHCI-Handoff (default is enable)
    b. EHCI-Handoff (defalut is disabled)
    2. Install the Chipset Drivers for your motherboad from the gigabyte site (if you haven't already)
    3. Then try and install the VIA USB3 drivers.

I will, in a minute, but my point is.... why??? Why this god damn W10 do this???? One day it works, the next one it doesn't. And if I would change something in my system, I would get it. But I haven't! That's the part that's bugging me the most.

Who knows. Maybe (with today's technology) your motherboard experienced some difficulty with a USB device and maybe decided to automatically disable all your USB devices. So it's a good idea to take a glimpse at the BIOS setiings. It's also a really good idea to check in there because Windows 10 sees your USB devices, yet the 'power' to them doesn't work. It's likely that your BIOS is saying to disable them.

    Next update
Went to UIFI - USB there are enabled, XHCI-Handoff enabled, EHCI-Handoff disabled. Installed chipset drivers. Restarted - no effect*Sad

To help you determine if the system is seeing your USB devices at all, there is an old legacy standalone utility called usbview. For the old-timers, it was developed back during the days of Project Longhorn (you can Google that). It is available thru Microsoft, it's not a 3rd party eat-you-alive utility. It's used mainly for a detailed look at all USB hubs/controllers/devices currently "seen" on your machine, for diagnostics purposes. It doesn't change anything, just dumps to the screen a detailed view of all your USB anything. Here is a sample from my machine. I plugged in a USB 3.0 thumb, and it sees it as this....controller, port, details, everything. It may help you narrow down what's happening.

Here's the link and a sample:

Would happily try it, but either it takes me to GitHub where is a bunch of single files, that I don't know what to do with or redirects me to get WDK or WSDK which is like 2 or 3 gig download. Can you please point me to the link where I can dl .exe maybe? or .msi or some executable package.

It works. But a thing that I least expect happened. Now when I plugged USB to never before used USB port, it started to work. But that doesn't answer the question why it didn't work as well when I was troubleshooting this few weeks ago? So it must mean that 2 of my USB ports are broken*Sad Front one(I have 2 on the front of the case) and one at the back. Most likely it's motherboard slowly expiring as I haven't touched any headers on the board.

Time for an upgrade. I wanted to do it anyway*Smile
ps. any thoughts on Asrock x370 killer?

Well, it had some use! *Wink You could see it pop up on the screen when you plugged it in. MBs? No idea.........but plenty of MB enthusiasts here...somebody (whole bunch of somebodys) will post. Or you could start a new thread with that question....
