Windows 10: Not running new .exe or .msi files

Hi All,

I have a problem with my windows 10 installation. It is Win10 Enterprise version 1809(17763.1339).
The problem: I cannot run some .exe, .msi and other weird behaviour.
My local IT colleagues are no help as they have never seen this behaviour.
I can run all previously installed applications like office and other non-office .exe, but it seems that all new .exe that I want to run just wont work. Double clicking does nothing, no message whatsoever. However, I can run them using the command line interface (CMD). Im a local Admin of my machine.
.msi files however show this in CMD Access denied.
My IT support says that if there was anything blocking .exe files it would have to be done via MacAfee and we even uninstalled it (to test that theory) with the same results, not running any new .exe or .msi files. Also, when I try to right click on a .reg file to edit or merge it does nothing.
Any ideas of what I should check?

Cannot run .exe files

I rebooted my computer and it downloaded some updates. When it restarted, I could no longer run any .exe files. When I click on one, it asks me which program I would like to use to run it. Obviously, there are no programs on the list it offers me. The
weirdest part is that some downloaded applications (like chrome, thankfully) still run. Any suggestions on how I can fix this or what happened?
