Windows 10: Not sure how to move things along...

Forgive me


Every time I switch on my laptop, it tells me to make space for an update.

What am I supposed to do with everything on it?

It's ancient, I've kept it working for nearly ten years without an update.

Can anyone recommend some free compression or archiving software?


Thanks and sorry for being so hopeless with this stuff.


There's also a message about free document converter software that I want to download.

How to get past these update and space warnings..?

Screen tearing not sure of cause

You posted a lot of information. That isn't a bad thing, but I would say a good chunk of people coming into the thread are going to be put off by it.

What I would suggest is taking the information you have there and short-handing it. People find it more readable to go down through a list of what has occurred and what you've done about it so far.

I'm sure someone will be along to help. That your mobo threw a beep code suggesting memory, and you ran 4 passes on it (MemTest?) without any problems, maybe you're looking at a problem with the mobo.

Again, try and shorthand your post.

I was also going to suggest Autoruns.

Check to make sure it isn't attaching itself to explorer. It should be the 3rd thing listed in Autoruns, the listing for the Shell. It should just be Explorer.exe. If it is anything else, that might be your problem.
