Windows 10: notepad does not work properly

notepad If I try to use Find ctrl/F and click Find next text moves down but no text is highlighted and no cursor on the screen. If the text being searched is not far from the current cursor position, the process works fine for a while, but as soon as the next text is a considerable distance away, the problem repeats itself. I switched to a new local account in Windows and notepad perfectly works. But what to do with my current account to fix that problem?

I understand that your notepad is not functioning properly after you have accidentally opened a notepad file. Please restart your device and see if the notepad is working again.

If you still have the same, I suggest repairing your Notepad app. Follow the steps below.

Press Win logo key + Q to open the search box and type Notepad> right-click Notepad at the top of the result list > App settings > Repair. Then restart your device.

If the issue still persists, please follow the steps again, and this time choose reset. After resetting, please restart your device again.

Notepad on Windows 7\

Suggestion would be uninstall then new install on Win7. Maybe an older version would work better? A list, maybe Version 7?

We noticed you are having problem with the notepad find next does not highlight text correctly; we have to say it is not a usual problem. Nevertheless, let us try to figure out why.

• Is this kind of problem only happening in notepad, or another text editor?
  
• Is this a recent issue for you or not?
  

My suggestion for you currently:

• Reinstall the notepad
  

[table][tr][td]The first thing I would come up with is probably there is something about notepad get broken; so we could try to reinstall it. 1-> Under Setting > System , at the left panel you will found Optional feature, found the notepad and select to remove it. 2-> After that, logout current account and login again. The notepad should not be launchable at this point. 3-> At the same panel, use Add an optional feature , search and install the notepad again. [/td][/tr][/table]

• Switch to new local account in Windows
  Switch to another local account on your computer, this is to exclude the possibility that broken account setting (On your current account) might affect how your notepad behave.
  
  • Select Start, select and hold (or right-click) the account name icon (or picture), then select Switch user. If you do not have another account, you could always add one under:
    Start > Settings > Accounts ; just remember to choose the local account.

If none of the above worked, I suspect it might be something internal about notepad. We suggest you submit a feedback and check for Windows update (after you submit, to provide information about current version). And maybe try to use another light weight text editor for now, thanks for your understanding.
