    Nov 30 2018 - Hardware acceleration issue with Sketchup after Windows 10/Surface Book 2 update


    Well I am not sure if it was a Windows 10 or a Surface Book 2 system update.

    It displayed itself as a "System Update", anyway.

    After then installing and restarting, Sketchup 2017/18 wouldn't start, it says hardware acceleration problem.


    I had to roll back the display driver to get it work and I lost a whole morning, which had implicated my work dateline.


    Another jumpy and scary Windows update.


    Why MS just can't test your updates thoroughly (and MAKE SURE THEY WORK) before spreading them out?


    My Surface Book as Intel UHD Graphics 620 and NVIDIA GTX 1050 adapters.

    SketchUp program is really slow when selectiong an object using Surface Book 2 and new Surface Pro.

    Hello,

    The Surface Book 2 should be capable enough in running SketchUp because it has a dedicated GPU. You might be experiencing this performance issue because SketchUp is only using integrated graphics instead of utilizing the dedicated GPU. Let's try setting
    your Surface to always use the dedicated GPU when running the app. Here's how:

    • On the search bar, in the taskbar, type Control Panel and select
      Control Panel in the results.
    • Click on Hardware and Sound.
    • Click on Nvidia Control Panel.
    • In the graphics settings, specify SketchUp to use the graphics card.
