Windows 10: Npcap loopback adapter: what the heck is it?

Hey everyone, I’m a bit confused about something. I think ever since i started putting vms on my laptop (or i had it before and never noticed) I’ve had the npcap loopback adapter instead of something like ethernet card. I’ve googled it and everywhere all it says is it’s appeared since windows 10, and it’s a useful feature. It doesn’t explain anywhere in depth what it is or does and how to use it. Anyone got an idea? Thanks!

Hi Guys,

I've discovered something called the Npcap Loopback Adapter in my available networks on my Windows 10 computer.





Does anyone know

1. what it is;

2. where it came from (which software); and

3. what is its function or what does it do.

I am a little sceptical about this Npcap Loopback Adapter thing and it seems it only appeared after the latest Windows 10 upgrade. Am I correct?

Yes, i think the Npcap Loopback Adapter appeared after the Creators Update if I’m not mistaken.

Do you know what it is & what does it do?
