    Nvidia Control Panel missing

I know there are a lot of old threads on this, but I've not seen an actual answer to this and it's been bugging me for over a year ever since I completely de-installed Nvidia from my Win 10-64 system due to apparent failure to upgrade to new drivers and getting a popup stating "The data is invalid".

I decided to have another go and went into safe mode, deleted all Nvidia directories, deleed driver in DEV MGR and rebooted. I had downloaded the latest 388.71 WHQL 12/20/17 driver and installed. It hummed along, blanked out my screens, then came back and at the end got the popup "the data is invalid" again. Crap! I checked the directories however and all the files appeared to actually have been installed, although DEV MGR said the driver date was 6/07/17 Ver 8253 and not 8871 as I would have expected. Not sure how this was accomplished.

I went to DEV MGR and hit the update key and pointed it to the latest driver uncompiled in C:\nvidia\etc--. This completed successfully and on checking DEV MRG reported the latest driver finally installed Ver 8871 12/15/17. However, there was still no sign in Control panel of the NVIDIA control panel.. So I'm happy that I finally have the latest driver installed, but I haven't found a clear and decisive answer if I can get the Control Panel back in Windows CP. I need it to control the gamma on my system as there is no other means. I don't play games, but I do a lot of photoshop and photography so gamma and colour balance are very important. Would really appreciate it if someone has a clear and up to date solution, as I've tried tons of recommendations over the last year and nothing worked.

Please, no amateur answers. I've worked with computers since 1980 on PDP's and I've been thru the treadmill on this. Surely there is an answer to this basic question - can it be restored or is the current state incompatible with Win 10. It used to work fine until I deleted it, so I can't see that as being the problem.

Cheers to all, may Crom ignore you, and your circuits work smoothly in 2018

    :)

Nvidia Control Panel - Disappeared after Windows 10 Version 1703 update

Thanks for the information. The problem was that it also was not listed on Control Panel - All Control Panel Items after the update. It was the second place I looked when I could not find it on the desktop. I did a complete search for the Nvidia Control,
Nvidia Control Panel and Nvidia on the C and D drives, and the Nvidia Control Panel was no where to be found. I was able to locate the Nvidia GForce Experience app (listed on the apps menu and via a search and it function fine) and able to locate the Nvidia
Driver using Device Manager, but I was unable to locate the Nvidia Control Panel. The Nvidia Icon, which is also set using the Nvidia Control Panel, that appears at the bottom right of the screen was also missing. All is now good after talking with Nvidia
    Support and following their instructions.

Did you try cleaning off the driver using DDU? Even a driver from the WU will have a control panel.

No, I followed a routine that had been used by someone in the UK as I listed. Have read a number of comments on using DDU but at best appears inconclusive. The only thing different is that the routine I followed talked about running setup and toggling all boxes. The information must be dated as the driver packages run by themselves and run setup after unpacking. The only way to access setup is after unpacking in c:\nvidia but it doesn’t produce any setup screen.
Will wait to see what else turns up before maybe retrying using DDU. THANKS.

Should be using something like Nvidia's Quadro range, not the gamers range of Graphics cards.
Quadro Professional Workstation Solutions from NVIDIA
In 15 years of Nvidia Graphics Cards I have never used DDU or similar, never used the latest driver either that is a fanatical gamers thing.

    Nvidia Control Panel missing

I'm using an older GTS 450 Card which has been a good performer since I got it in Nov 2010. It's output goes to a Matrox Digital Triple Head splitter to my 3 24" ASUS monitors.
While I agree latest driver is not an issue unless you are gaming, Nvidia is aggressive in reminding you of updates and I tend to keep all my drivers up to date regardless.
In 2014 I updated my mobo with Asus Z87 Sabretooth and i7-4770K Qcore and the package was working fine until about a year ago when I started to have Nvidia driver updates indicate after or during installation "data is invalid". Usually this prevented the update installing, but I still had my Nvidia control panel until I decided to strip all Nvidia out of my system and start fresh. Since then I have not been able to get that panel back. Surely you'd think someone at Nvidia could explain WTF is happening.
Not sure moving to a Quadro board would resolve anything.

I keep an older PC as an emergency backup. It's a 10 year old Asus PV5K-VM mobo, Intel core 2 Duo E6750 with a GeForce 210 small basic card but produces a nice clean image. Now it has the Nvidia control Panel installed so took a close look at the drivers listed. ther are 6 drivers plus the GeForce Experience 2.2.2. Here's the list:
    1. Nvidia GeForce 210 driver 21.21.13.4201 dated 11/14/16
    2. Nvidia Graphics Driver 342.01
    3. Nvidia HD Audio Driver 1.3.30.1
    4. Nvidia PhysX System Software 9.13.1220
    5. Nvidia 3D Vision Controller driver 340.50
    6. Nvidia 3D Vision Driver 342.01
The system is Win 10-64 same as it's big brother PC tho list as NT 10.0 14393. No Intel graphics installed, which brings me to another question. My problematic PC with the GTS 450 card, also has Intel HD 4600 installed. Wondering if I should just remove it. I did have it disabled for awhile and didn't seem to make any difference. My understanding is that they shouldn't interfere with each other and switch depending on the graphics being loaded. Any thoughts?

  10. You must disable the onboard graphics on your Haswell system if you are going to use the GTS 450 with it.

Your 10 year old system does not have a driver for Windows 10 so it doesn't detect the Intel GMA 3100 from it's motherboard.

    Hi TheKelt.

Just throwing in my thoughts re your comment
I did have it disabled for awhile and didn't seem to make any difference.

When you re-enabled it did MS drop an update on it, (I hate their driver update policy).

I could be wrong but on a mixed manufacturer graphics system
Intel drivers should be installed First, then NVidia's
I did see some posts last year where MS dumped "old" Intel drivers on users and it did give some dual graphics problems

Thanks Roy Hawkman. No, I didn't notice whether or not MS made any changes, but I don't think so. I normally use a driver checking program to check and remind me if any drivers need updating and then make decisions whether to let the program update, or do it myself manually, or ignore it. I often compare what the program recommends against the manufacturer's site to see if they corroborate.
Of course, if it is done as part of Win update then I wouldn't be aware unless I checked the details of the update.
