Windows 10: Oblytile alternative?

This is Why I love WIndows 8.1 start screen so much better than Windows10's Start-Screen. I am using Obilytile on almost all apps:










Notice how organize the tiles are on my Win8.1 Start-Screen? I wish Win10's Start-Screen was the same. Also the fact that Obilytile doesnt work is another incentive for me NOT to upgrade.

Microsoft did a good job with the Start-Menu but they shouldnt have screwed with the Start-Screen in the process. =(

Go the store and try Pin More gives you a free trial which allows you to create 3 tiles after that you have to purchase. But pretty cheap, easy to use for creating tiles for websites save an image then copy URl and paste, didn't try the other features

Thanks for this suggestion. Using their Snowy Dune Launcher program you can assign desktop applications to tiles with Pin More. It's not as good as Oblytile but it's as good as we're gonna get for a while I reckon.

This program looks promising if the instruction were laid out in laymen's terms...
i have no idea what to put in the Approved Apps Key field...

 

The guy who made it could definitely have created clearer instructions. The first thing you will need to do is download and install this file as an administrator. Unfortunately do to limitations of Windows Store apps this separate piece of software is needed to link executable files to tiles:

Dropbox - TileCreatorProxy.exe

Once that is installed you will have a folder on your C drive called Tilecreator and inside that folder a file called 'ApprovedApps.config'. You need to open this file in notepad to add the programs you want to create tiles for. Programs are added in the format 'key : path' where the key is a name you are assigning the program and the path is the location of the program. So for example if I wanted to add iTunes and Photoshop it would look like this:





So to break down one of the lines there, in this example Photoshop:C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\photoshop.exe the red text is the key you need to enter into Tilecreator and the green text is the path of the program.

Then to create a tile I just open up Tilecreator, enter a name (optional), enter a key and select an image. If I wanted to create a tile for photoshop this is what it would look like:





If I wanted to make a tile for iTunes instead I'd just enter iTunes instead of Photoshop in the key section.

 

Thank you for the detail of your response. Unfortunately its not working for me. I followed you instructions yet I get a error that says, "You need a new app to open this tile creator" every time I click on the custom tile.

 

A few people over on the XDA forum got the same error. Hopefully the author of the program will chime in soon enough with a fix.

Edit: Try changing 'TERA-Launcher_original_original' to 'TERA-Launcher_original_original.exe'

 

It's not saving the Tiles as I wish.

Tile background colour and text colour don't work yet but they should work in a update which will hopefully be out soon. For now the only workaround is to make a tile image with the background colour and text you want already on it.

 

How in the world do you find the path for things like Control Panel and Settings?
