  1. Obscure Fullscreen problem

I’m on Win 10 pro on a home-built PC and I started having a very odd issue with what I believe to be Win 10. I’ve had the same hardware and OS set up since about October of last year and this issue only started to arise within the past couple weeks.

TL;DR: After a few hours of my PC running, issue arises where games that run in fullscreen won’t display on my only monitor that I have connected to my GPU. Audio plays but no video. Clicking on their icon in taskbar minimizes the app so it’s running in fullscreen, it’s just not displaying on my monitor. They run fine in windowed mode or any other mode outside of fullscreen. I’ve tried all the usual fixes for fullscreen issues and no dice. Restarting my PC allows me to run them in fullscreen again as expected but issue returns after a random amount of hours. Idk wat do.

Detailed breakdown: Whenever I launch an app in fullscreen mode (typically a game) after my computer has been on for a few hours, the app seems to display on another monitor even though I don’t have any other displays connected to my GPU outside of my Quest and my Index VR headsets (though I’ve had them hooked up to my PC for months and this issue started to happen only recently). Though I’ve even disconnected those while the issue was occurring and made sure only my monitor was connected to my GPU. Still no change to the situation.

The game’s audio will be perfectly clear and play through my display but the game won’t display on my screen. I’ll just see my desktop. Whenever I try to click the game icon on my taskbar to bring up the game screen onto my display, it minimizes the game. The audio stops and the background of the game icon on my taskbar is orange. Typically what apps that are running look like when I’ve minimized them.

Clicking the app again brings the original problem: the game audio plays fine but the game won’t display on my screen.

Sometimes (this honestly seems to be almost random) the game will launch in fullscreen and display on my monitor and the audio will play all as expected, except I can’t interact with the app. My cursor won’t change to reflect the cursor design of the app that I should be in. I have to click anywhere on my fullscreened app to get into the app but once I do that, the issue returns and the app audio plays in the background while I can only see my desktop on my display.

I’ve tried digging for days to find similar instances of this issue and I can’t seem to find anything that matches my description of the situation. My temporary solution to this is just restarting my computer as that seems to cause the issue to disappear for a while. The issue returns almost at random after my computer has been on for a few hours (somewhere between 4-12 hours, again, it’s totally random as the issue will arise after about 5 hours on one day or it’ll arise after nearly 10 hours on another day).

I’ve run a full scan with both Windows Defender and Malwarebytes and both have found nothing. The only thing that stands out to me is that I think a program is starting to run after a few hours that may be causing this issue but I can’t find anything out of place in TaskMgr or Resource Monitor. Nothing that shouldn’t be running is running to my knowledge. I haven’t made any hardware or major software changes to my system in months. So I’m at a loss as to why this is happening. The fact that it’s a bunch of unrelated apps experiencing the same issue leads me to believe it’s related to the OS or another app but again, no apps that haven’t been running regularly on my system for months have been running when the issue arises so I’m inclined to believe the issue is tied to Windows?

Opening the games in windowed mode works perfectly, even borderless works totally fine. It’s just opening them in fullscreen that becomes an issue. Also, I have tried all the usual attempts at fixing the issue by running in compatibility mode (even though these are games that are relatively new), running as admin, disabling scaling, reinstalling graphics drivers from scratch using DDU and performing a clean install, etc. Nothing seems to fix it permanently.

    Any suggestions?

  2. Fullscreen mode problem

I did a clean boot and I was able to run it in fullscreen. At first it was minimizing the game at fullscreen and I had to click on the icon to bring it back on screen. After a few clicks the game seemed to run in fullscreen without any problems.

The problem is caused by NahimicService.exe which has something to do with audio drivers of Sonic Studio, applications wwhich are included in ASUS and MSI Motherboards.

There are many Official Forums of those Brands that suggest to uninstall Realtek drivers.

In Windows 10, there is an option to open an app in a fullscreen view. This way, it will be possible for you to make the fullscreen window move to a new desktop. Follow these steps to do so.

    • Right click on the application.
    • Select Properties.
    • Click on the Shortcut tab.
    • Beside the Run option, click on the drop-down menu and then choose Maximized.
    • Click on Apply button and then click OK.
