    October 7, 2020 - Windows 1803 update changed Office 2016 to Office 365 again!

    Seriously Microsoft? Again?

What was supposed to be just security and OS updates turned into a massive update changing my Office 2016 Pro to Office 365. Even though I have the "Disable Updates" turned on. How do I know? Let me count the ways:

    1. Because all the ribbons and icons and toolbars changed.
    2. None of my 3rd party add-ins work properly or at all because they weren't designed for the constant updates of 365. Hence, why I have Office 2016 and not the dreaded mess of Office 365.
    3. Because somehow, the "Disable Updates" magically turned itself back to "Update Automatically".
    4. Because Word/Excel/etc. all automatically signed themselves into my micorosft.com account which is supposed to beNOT the case.

I had to roll back all the updates and install them one at a time to figure out which one "did the deed". And do you know why I know it was embedded in one of the updates? Because once I found the problem and uninstalled it, everything went back to normal. Sort of, I won't get into all the settings I had to change because I "signed out" of my micorsoft.com account. This is not the first time this has happened.

Why do you do this? I can no longer trust that the updates that you push our won't cost me hours of extra work. Please respond with the address for your AR/AP department so I know where to send the invoice for my wasted time. Don't worry, I'll wait.

    :)

    Office 365 or Office 2016

I am having a similar problem. I have never to my knowledge indicated that I want Office 365 or an Office 365 "free trial"; I have Office 2016 installed on my laptop. The application list on the start menu does not include Office 365. However, Settings/Apps does indicate that it's installed. Today my system was co-opted by Office 365 Click-to-Run grabbing both disk and CPU; this has not happened before.

I bought this laptop two years ago, bought Office 2016 and installed it via Microsoft download as no installation media were provided. I uninstalled the annoying "Get Office" application at that time and have been a happy Word user until earlier today.

I don't know if this is relevant, but this behavior started right after Windows Update installed the August 14 cumulative update (KB4343909). No updates to either Office version appeared in update history.

My questions about how to deal with this situation are:
--Would the Uninstall option in Apps get rid of Office 365 entirely and leave Office 2016 in place and working?
--Is there an effective way to disable or stop Click to Run and keep it stopped?
--Should I change the update setting in Office to Do Not Update? I did try to look at the Office update history, but all I got was an Office 365 sign-in screen--useless because I don't have an Office 365 account.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much in advance.

  4. October 7, 2020 - Windows 1803 update changed Office 2016 to Office 365 again!

Windows update 1803 has changed my ms office from 2016 to office 365.

Office 2016 and Office 365 are the same.

Office 2016 is under the Office 365 brand and includes products such as Word 2016, Excel 2016, PowerPoint 2016.
