selection jumps to top with something like a cycled "Up" button in Notification, Start menu and system settings with new UI. But legacy UI or 3rd party software are unaffected. When I reboot or stop task "Desktop Windows Manager", so that GUI is reloaded, that glitch goes away.

It happened out of the blue, around recent cumulative update right before the required reboot, and I'm very confused what could cause it.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    Odd behavior since aniversary update

    Hi,

To assist you with your concern, let us try the following methods:

    Method 1:
    Follow the steps through Fix
Windows Update errors by using the DISM or System Update Readiness tool
to check for any update errors.

    Method 2:
Perform a Clean boot on your PC.

Clean Boot temporarily disables all third party applications as well as all Microsoft non-essential services so only basic drivers will run. This will help us find any third-party software which
can be the cause of this issue.

    Here are the steps:

    • From Start,
      search for msconfig.

    • Select System
      Configuration from the search results.

    • On the Services tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click to select the Hide
all Microsoft services check box, and then tap or click Disable
      all.

    • On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click Open Task
      Manager.

    • On the Startup tab in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then click Disable.

    • Close Task Manager.

    • On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click OK,
      and then restart the computer.

Windows 10, odd behavior after restart

    Hi Chris,

This seems to be caused by a corrupt user profile. We suggest that you run the System File Checker. It
is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. To run the tool, follow these steps:

    • Click Start, type Command Prompt or cmd in the Search box, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run
      as administrator
. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
    • At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
      sfc /scannow
You can also run the DISM or System Update Readiness tool. This will help you fix
Windows corruption errors caused by failed installation of Windows updates and service packs. To run the tool, refer to this

    link
    .

Once you're done running the tools, restart the computer and check.

Let us know how it goes after performing the suggested troubleshooting steps.
