This is great. I am on night duty right now. Will be back to home in a couple of hours and I will go through these steps and get back to you guys certainly to post about the results. However, I already have installed the recovery manager for my model yesterday and even before that. This is not searchable though from start menu.

Also, do you guys think it is wise if I delete the other data partitions and leave one C drive as it was originally alongwith recovery partition and then reinstall Windows 8.1. From there as far as I know, I will be able run HP recovery manager and may be able to create recovery media.

Or will this be futile as the recovery partition has been tampered with when I resized the drive?

It's almost bedtime for me! Run Windows 10 Disk Manager:

    *Start+R then type Diskmgmt.msc,

    - Make sure that there are good views of the Upper and lower panes showing : Volume, status, etc., details - you may need to make it full width - e.g.

We know nothing about the state of the recovery partition yet. Once we have converted the OEM recovery partition type to 07, we can give it a drive letter and view in Explorer, but Windows is not exactly straightforward how to do that. It can be done in diskpart, but we don't want to go there yet. Tomorrow!

My personal opinion is to wipe the disk, install Windows 10 with the digital entitlement the OEM Windows 8.1 has given the machine, and download the drivers and HP software for the machine, but don't install anything that is not absolutely essential to make all the devices work properly - Chipset, Storage, Graphics, Sound, Network, Cam, DVD-RW and Card Readers etc. if present, should all be working properly in Device Manager.

You can transfer the Windows 10 license you bought to another machine separately.

  3. I cannot provide you a screenshot right now. But that is not the state of drive. I have a GPT partition system so I have three drives and recovery drive of OEM partition which already has a letter assigned. I can even see its content.

I have used diskpart alot of times before but I don't think I need that because my recovery disk is already having a letter assigned to it and its contents are also easily visible by using the Folder View option and Unchecking Hide Protected System files option.

Have a good night! Hope to hear tomorrow from you!

Copy the contents of that OEM recovery partition to an external source....
there are several ways to restore the factory OS..
we can use DISM to apply the factory Image to the OS partition

The important thing is the files usually contained within that OEM 8.1 recovery partition..

  5. I have provided you a screenshot of command in your original thread. You can continue answering me there if necessary.

You explain the steps for using DISM as I am familiar with this process a little bit. I used it while creating a Windows to Go drive I guess.

It seems odd that the D: Recovery drive is occurring twice in the upper pane. Otherwise, what you say indicates you are good to proceed

    Follow Kyhi's advice - he's the expert!

  10. In the other forum, I had been in discussion with the master. However, before his last replt I reset my system using the media I had created. It just finished that. I had a non activated windows 8.1 with no software that came with it. I have activated the window as I had infact extracted the key when upgrading it to 10. Now my Recovery drive is gone as well. Cant see it anymore.

Glad that worked out. I have given a couple new HP's to family members. I always create the recovery drive on a usb and tell them to keep on hand because no one gives you recovery dvd's any more. The only time any of them used it was to repair a corrupt upgrade to a new SSD. So, it's better to have and not need than to need and not have. Cheers.
