Windows 10: Office 2019 Preview

So.... I decided to install this alongside a retail Offfice 2013 to check it out ( call it infinite wisdom, knowing the conflicts different office versions have... LOL)
... anyway the interesting thing is the "free" bit in the version...

(Ignore the blanks I have yet to provide click-2-run functionality in the tool)

and 2nd'ly the perpetual grace period (?oxymoron)... Does this mean there is no expiry like with Insider versions?

Very weired if that is so. It may be piggy-backing on the underlying Office 2013 activation, but the perpetual thing has me flummoxed .

Only supported on Win10. Sorry, 8.1 users, only 4 years old, gotta go.

Last year at Ignite, we announced Office 2019 – the next perpetual version of Office that includes apps (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and Skype for Business) and servers (including Exchange, SharePoint, and Skype for Business). Today we’re pleased to share the following updates:

Office 2019 will ship in H2 of 2018. Previews of the new apps and servers will start shipping in the second quarter of 2018.

Office 2019 apps will be supported on:

Any supported Windows 10 SAC release

Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2018

The next LTSC release of Windows Server

The Office 2019 client apps will be released with Click-to-Run installation technology only. We will not provide MSI as a deployment methodology for Office 2019 clients. We will continue to provide MSI for Office Server products.

Office 2019 here?

I've noticed updates in WSUS showing up like "(Preview) Office 2019 Perpetual Enterprise Client Update Version 1802 for x64 based Edition (Build 9029.2167)" and in the Microsoft Update Catalog.

At the same time Microsoft has a website up saying "Office 2019 perpetual volume license products available as Click-to-Run"

Is there a Office 2019 preview out there that we can test? And if we have Office 365, is everything above version 1802 considered "2019"?

Office 2019 Preview is ready for Commercial customers

Today, we're pleased to announce the Office 2019 Commercial Preview of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Access, Project, Visio and OneNote for Windows 10. This milestone is the first in a series of preview announcements for the Office 2019 wave, and in the coming months we’ll release previews of Office 2019 for Mac, Exchange 2019, SharePoint 2019, Project Server 2019, and Skype for Business 2019. Office 365 ProPlus delivers the most productive and most secure Office experience – with the lowest TCO for deployment and management. But for customers who aren’t yet ready to move to the cloud, Office 2019 provides an update to the perpetual apps with new features for both end users and IT.

Office 2019 delivers new features to help end users create amazing content in less time. Updates include new and improved inking features across the apps, like the roaming pencil case, pressure sensitivity, tilt effects, and ink replay; more powerful data analysis in Excel, like new formulas, new charts, and Power BI integration; and sophisticated presentation features in PowerPoint, like Morph and Zoom. Office 2019 also includes new IT value. We introduced Click-to-Run (C2R), a modern deployment technology, in Office 2013, and it's now used to deploy and update Office across hundreds of millions of devices worldwide. With Office 2019, we're moving the perpetual versions of Office to C2R exclusively so IT can take advantage of modern deployment technology to reduce costs and improve security. The advantages of C2R include predictable monthly security updates, up-to-date apps on installation, reduced network consumption through Windows 10 download optimization technology, and an easy upgrade path to Office 365 ProPlus. C2R offers the same enterprise-focused management capabilities as MSI-based products and will also support an in-place upgrade when you move to Microsoft Office 2019 from older MSI-based products.
