Windows 10: Office 365 / Excel 'corrupt' file

Hi

Running W10 pro...with office 365 Outlook/Excel etc...

Excel is giving me fits. Opening an excel file within an email gives me 'corrupt' file. If I save the file I will be able to open it up *sometimes*. I have tricked the OS into opening the file by printing from the email attachment and then clicking 'save'. Sometimes that will actually open the excel file but not always.

Any ideas? I even installed excel previewer for mobile and confirmed that excel (desktop) was the app to open excel files but that did not help.

edit: this is happening with Word as well.

new to office 365 was trying to add a column in excel and that feature is shut down tells me to convert my office 2003 to office 365 but says my 2003 file will be deleted. As I understand it will delete old 2003 file but will convert the data on old file
to new office 365 file correct.

 

Can't open Excel 2013 files through Windows Explorer after installing Windows 10

I have shortcuts to my Office 365 folders on my desktop, so that I could open these files through Windows Explorer. After upgrading to Windows 10 none of the Excel files will open. I get the same "The file is corrupt and cannot be opened" message every
time I try and open an Excel file. If I open the files directly through 365 I have no issues. I also tried opening 365 using Internet Explorer and then opening Windows Explorer from there and opening the files. I got the same results.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Only thing I can think of is doing a repair of office, other people had had various issues since upgrade

Right click Start Button and select Programs and Features
Find Office and select it
At the top you should now have a button labelled Change
Click this and you should have an option to Repair

See if that makes any difference

 

Repair did not work but I reinstalled and its working.
