  1. Office Apps Not Appearing in Start Menu Folder

I had some Apps (programs actually, might have even been the office ones) that wouldn't pin to the Start Screen. They showed up in the Start Menu/All Apps. I just right clicked and drag and dropped them to the Start Screen to get them to stick. The only option I get in those folders is Pin To taskbar. Another option you could try is run the setup.exe from your Office install media, then look for a Repair option. That may put your icons back.

I don't have time to uninstall right now, but I tried the repair option provided in the office setup file. That did not change anything.

I can try to uninstall later, but I suspect if the repair did not work, then the uninstall also will not work.

  3. There was at least one other thread on this issue. I can't find it at the moment though, it's an old thread now. If I remember right It had to do with search not finding any of the office programs. I can't remember what the thread title was though.

    So to update this thread...

    I uninstalled office completely.

    Ran a registry cleaner.

    Restarted the computer.

    Reinstalled office.

    Restarted the computer.

There is still no change. No folder at all for microsoft office in the start menu.

Hi, I've noticed something very similar. Having upgraded from Win 8.1, where I had many programs installed, arranged in custom folders (Multimedia, Utilities, Office etc) I find some of those start menu folders in the Win 10 start menu, but not others. And one contains all (?) programs, whilst one contains one of many entries that should be there.

One that isn't is my Office folder (which I created) and which holds shortcuts and folders of shortcuts to a number of programs.

Now, when I use Classic Shell, everything is as it should be, implying the contents of the folders containing the start menu entries are there. One thing I haven't tried in Win 10 is creating a new user. But hey, I never either expected or intended to use Win 10's start menu... *chuckle

  6. A clean install of Windows 10 and office will likely fix this. Just something to consider.

I would like to provide an update to this thread.

So I spent a few hours in a chat session with the help center from Microsoft, and the resolution he found was to create a new user account. This solution did solve the start menu problem, but it was not acceptable for me. The rep did help me migrate all of my files over to the new account, but I did not want to spend the time to completely reconfigure the new account to match my old account. I have been customizing my account for a very long time and did not want to start over. So I deleted the new account.

Recently I chose to be a part of the Microsoft Insider program, which allows the user to receive Windows 10 updates before they are rolled out to the general public. Well today I received the update 10547, and I am happy to say this update has resolved my start menu problems. I now have every program in the menu that should be there, including all the Office apps.

I believe the problem was caused by the 512 app limit for the start menu in Windows 10. Update 10547 increases this limit to 2048. A powershell command showed I have about 1000 items in the start menu. So this was probably the cause of all of my issues.

I do still have some bugs though. For example, if I pin something to start I have to restart the computer for the change to take place. But I can live with these issues until they are fixed as well.

Office Apps Not Appearing in Start Menu Folder

Hi, yes, the start menu limit. I've just recently discovered that still applies, astonishingly. I thought it had been fixed, but know it's going to be. Certainly explains why I'm missing a lot.

Now, jf2oo6, I wonder if you could let me know one thing.

My 'normal' start menu has major folders e.g. Office, Multimedia, Utilities... and subfolders, either my own or those programs create themselves. Viewed in 'All apps' the top level folder is shown, then the extracted shortcuts in all the subfolders in alphabetical order. Thus I have (e.g.)

    Gilisoft Audio Recorder Pro
    Help
    Help
    Help
    Help

    etc

    - the 'Help' being extracted from a number of different folders.

Has this been resolved in the latest build? Thanks!

I am not sure I have the same problem as you, so I don't think I can effectively answer. I do still have the major folders, with the subfolders and programs inside the majors. But I don't notice any files or programs that are repeated within those folders as you have suggested. But again, I did not notice that issue before the update either.

I would suggest you try to update to build 10547. I am happy with it and I do not notice any adverse effects thus far.

Thanks- guess it could be a side effect of having double (or so) the amount of shortcuts..
Anyway, I'm not intending to rely on Win 10's start menu, and use Classic Shell- I much prefer a multicolumn start menu I can manipulate, with a focussed search option.
