Windows 10: Old installers not working on Windows10 64-bit 20H2

I have some old programs that will not install on the latest Windows 10 version, while they would install on previous versions. Running the installer does nothing visible no window or dialog box shows up, no error message, nothing, while the task manager shows the installer running forever, until I force close it. I have tried running as administrator and all the compatibility options with the same results. Windows installed 32-bit version of Windows 10, when it should be 64-bit

In order to help you better, could you please confirm a couple of things:

• How did you upgrade to Windows 10?
• Have you checked under system info?

I suggest you to go to control panel and system and under system info check which bit is installed.

As your Windows 7 is running on 32 bit, Windows 10 will be installed as 32 bit architecture if you install Windows 10 through Windows updates. If you want to install Windows 10 64 bit, I suggest you to check whether your system
supports 32/64 bit architecture. If your computer supports 64 bit architecture, then i suggest you to refer the below link to install Windows 10 64 bit using the media creation tool.

How do I install IE 32 bit and/or switch from 64 bit to 32 bit?

Windows 10: Internet Explorer

• You need to have Windows 10 64-bit(x64) to use this feature
• To check:
  • Click on Windows Key
  • Click on Settings
  • Click on System
  • On left panel click on About
  • On right panel check system type:
    • System Type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
      • That means you have Windows 10 64-bit
    • System Type: 32-bit operating system, x86-based processor
      • That means you have Windows 10 32-bit
• Internet Explorer
  • 32-bit(x86):
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplorer.exe
  • 64-bit(x64):
    • C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplorer.exe

Note:

• You cannot switch between Windows 10 32-bit to 64-bit. you need to re-install Windows 10 64 bit.

1. Thank you all for your suggestions. Nothing actually worked on my end. If you haven't tried the recent MS 64 bit download/boot/install, please attempt it if you have time.
2. Personally, I think there is a bug in the MS 64 bit process as I had no issues with the 32 bit.
3. In the end, I bought an OEM install disk on-line for $20 and I was able to get 2 of my PCs upgraded to Win-10 Pro / 64 bit. No more headache.
