Windows 10: Older Cancon printer not working on windows 10

OK, so I have acquired a Canon Imageclass 4270 Printer.

I downloaded the drivers from the canon page and installed, I do not have a usb cable and my computer found the printer through network (cable plugged from printer to router).

everything went well with the driver install and it printed a test page.

However that is where my luck ended. The printer has set itself to "offline" with no option to change it that I can find. It tells me that my printer is powered off, however it is not.

I followed advice in a forum that suggested to change my ports configuration and turn off SNMP and while that changed that offline setting to "que" it still did not actually print anything. Also, while in there I did confirm that the port name and printer name were the same.


I don't know if its related, but the printer keeps complaining that im using the wrong paper and will print anyhow after I say go ahead. It copies just fine.


Any ideas? I have the install disk, however my laptop doesn't have a disc drive...

I suggest you to disable and re-enable the USB controllers. The following steps will uninstall all the USB controllers and then re-install them:

a. Right click on Start, and then click
Run.

b. Type devmgmt.msc and then click
OK. Device Manager opens.

c. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.

Note: You might have to scroll down the list to find this item.

d. Right click the first USB controller under
Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then click Uninstall to remove it.

e. Repeat step 4 for each USB controller that is listed under
Universal Serial Bus controllers.

Note: Restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and reinstall all the USB controllers that you uninstalled.

installing an older printer on windows 10

Hi . I have an older printer, HP Photosmart 7660, that I am trying to install onto a windows 10 PC. It is connected by a USB cable, and I have the instillation disk. It would not install. I have also tried using the printer install wizard and that could
not locate the printer. It will show up in the device manager, in duplicate, with a message that there is no driver. Under devises it is listed as a storage device and not a printer. Is there any way to get this printer installed onto that windows 10 computer?
