  1. One Drive Storage Location

My laptop is running out of storage space. I have everything backed up in One Drive.

Are these files in the One Drive folder in File Explorer stored locally on my hard drive, or are they stored on Microsoft's servers somewhere? I think they're stored locally. I can put music folders in these One Drive folders, map i-tunes to that folder and it plays the MP3 files. I'm thinking if it was online only that wouldn't be possible? Or am I wrong?

If the files in my One Drive folder are not stored locally, does that mean I can move files off of my C drive and into One Drive to save space?

One last question, if those files in my One Drive (i.e. my backup) ARE stored locally, does that mean I am storing 2 of every file I have on my laptop? Because that's obviously not optimal. My OS is Windows 10 Home 64 bit.

    Hard Drive Storage

    Hi William,

In Windows 10, you can change the default Save location for apps, documents, music, picture and video files to another drive or partition. You can follow the steps below to change the default Save location:

    • If your Windows 10 version is 1703 and later, go to Start Menu
      > Settings > System settings
      > Storage> Change where new content is saved.

    • Otherwise, go to Start Menu > Settings
      > System settings > Storage.

Should you need further assistance, don't hesitate to get back to us.

hard drive full, but can<t find the item to erase

Windows 10 has the option to change the storage location. We suggest that you change the storage location so you can still use your hard drive instead of using the SSD. Kindly follow the steps below on how to change the storage location:

    • On the Search bar, type in storage and select the top most result.
    • On the Storage screen, change the location of each options to your desired hard drive. The files will now be saved on the specific hard drive.

How to remove a bad drive in Windows 10 storage spaces pool

Could someone list the steps involved in replacing a bad drive from a Windows 10 storage spaces pool? I cannot find any info on the Microsoft support site that is specific to Windows 10. Also, could you list the steps to remove a 'good' drive and replace
it with another drive if the process is different?
