  1. One Drive with a new laptop

So, my old laptop died about a week ago, and fortunately I had a full backup of the entire contents on an external drive. I did the full back on May 24th. During the week I was waiting for my new laptop, I accessed and updated a few files in One Drive using my tablet.

I bought a new laptop and did a full restore from my backup drive, since I don't have all my files synced in OneDrive too many photos, which I don't sync to OneDrive. When I did the restore, I changed where the files were restored, as they didn't seem to restore to the default user initially "Patricia" I think, now "logof" -- made up by Windows 10. See the screenshot listing the users. All my files are under user "logof", which are also the default locations for Documents, Pictures, Music, and Videos. I then downloaded from One Drive the 6 files I had updated over the week to their correct directories, so I had the most recent versions on my desktop.

Now I am noticing that after the download, I made some changes to the downloaded content, and it did not sync to OneDrive. I think OneDrive is looking to sync with the old file structure which no longer exists. I am not even sure what the old structure was, but it mighthave been C:\Users\Patricia, but under that structure, there are no files. As I said, the new files are in this structure: "C:\Users\logof"

How do I get stuff to resync to my new file structure, making sure the changes I made to the files on the laptop this morning, are uploaded to OneDrive, and OneDrive doesn't download the previous versions on top of the new one.'

I am fine with simply blowing away OneDrive and starting over, if that is the easiest way to do it. I have a full backup of my laptop on my external drive. I just want to make sure that the changes I made this morning to my local laptop, are not lost, and I can easily just make copies of those before I do anything.

    Trish ;

  3. Reinstall Windows 10 to new hard drive

    Hi Rodolpho,

We want to know about the issue you're having with your recovery drive. Please answer the questions below:

    • Are you trying to reinstall Windows 8 or Windows 10?
    • If you already upgraded to Windows 10, were you able to create a new copy of the recovery drive?

We suggest creating a new copy of the recovery drive and then follow the steps provided by Andre Da Costa above this thread.

Update us with the outcome so we can assist you further.

One Drive with a new laptop

New laptop and older external hard drive

The laptop doesn't easily "see" the drive.. when I am in Devices and Printers... the icon for the ext HD will appear for just a few seconds.. if I rightclick on it quickly, it'll show the popup for hardware but doesn't have the info for it... does correctly
refer to it as "USB 2.0 CD + HDD".

I tried your list of steps, but , the HD does NOT ever show in the Disk Management list.

I do have an older Dell that I need to see if it will recognize the HD. I'll try that next.

THANKS for taking the time to list those steps...
