OneDrive ate my hard drive and external hard drive

I enabled OneDrive on my computers.

My main computer seemed to get slower and slower.

I clicked on "This PC" and my internal drive was red - showing
about 20 GB space where there had been close to 200 GB a
    short time before.

My external drives - one a 1 TB WD was completely filled - 0
available space and the other = a 3 TB WD was pretty close
    to full as well...

I went nuts and tried to find what was going on...ended up
deleting boatloads of files/folders just to create some space.

Finally, found that OD kept copying various files/folders over
and over and over again ... placing them in my C drive and the
two external drives... there seemed to be no rhyme or reason
for the selection of the files/folders that were continually being
    replicated.

Scared the crap out of me....

I'd asked Windows techs for assistance and each time they
logged into my computer, the issue just got worse.

I was not able to delete OneDrive. Finally found out how
to stop it from copying files...

and just found that it's still doing the same thing on at least one
    of my drives...

SO... Can anyone tell me how to eliminate OD from my computer?

I want to be able to drag files and drop them to OD online... just
don't want it to have access to my PC..

Also, how do I find all of the bazillions of copies of files/folders and
    eliminate them?

    Thank you for your assistance

    Karen

    :)

    10 ate my hard drive

Updated to windows 10 and now I have to buy a new hard drive. MICROSOFT YOU SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS!!!!! How can you be so irresponsible to push out a product that is crashing hard drives and messing up graphics setting and giving countless people
black screens?!?! I had to restart my computer so many times trying to troubleshoot the issue and updating drivers and trying to access configuration setting to fix the black screen issue that it literally broke my hard drive. I can't even recover anything.
Years of family pictures. Digital copies of movies. Music. Gone!!!!!!! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!!

Do you still have at least one set of true-blue folders and files that you normally work with -- before this situation happened? And now, you have many duplications of those same folders and files, correct? I hope others will enter in with their ideas and solution possibilities 'cause I don't have any answers at this time.

How much data do you have on your OneDrive? AFAIK 1TB is typically the most you can have without paying quite a bit extra.

So are all these copies of the same data? Do you have OneDrive setup to sync to all your drives?

Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste these commands:

    1) winver (in the pop up view your windows version and build and post into the forum)

    2) sfc /scannow

    3) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

    4) %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset

Look immediately to the right lower corner and make sure onedrive disappears. It may reappear within approximately two minutes so don't miss it so that you can confirm that onedrive has been reset.

Please report the results of scannow and restorehealth into the forum

In addition, check what files and folders you are syncing with OneDrive. For example, I choose not to synch large video & photo folders and go to the OneDrive web page to access those.

Some of these files were also going into my desktop OneDrive...

I don't think that any were going to the online folder..

Most of the folders in my desktop OD were empty folders

Same with online... I have to go through each folder individually to see
if there's actually anything inside and either delete and start again or
    drag the contents up..

I do not trust the desktop app... I do not let it run... and, somehow it
is still copying files/folders over and over and over again

I made the mistake of assuming that onedrive operated the same
as other storage software like DropBox, etc...

with DB, I just drag and drop things into folders in the desktop
app and they are snyced automatically with the online storage.

that's what I was doing... just dragging folders and dropping them
    into the OneDrive icon.

Microsoft support logged into my computer three different times...

at least twice, OneDrive was deleted from my computer and
added back... and each time, the situation got even worse.

I only did this on one computer .... have been manually adding folders
to the online account from all of my computers... still finding many
    empty folders.

  11. I cannot offer any help, but I can tell my (short) story.

I used One Drive a couple of years ago. It was just for saving a small number of very important files.

But the uploads failed VERY frequently on files larger than 20 MB. (Smaller files did not seem to fail.)

So I dropped One Drive and went to Google Drive. This one is flawless. I've never had a lick of trouble with it.

Most of these were created Nov 28 2016

C contains 44.4 GB of stuffs... looks like
    random things from C drive

I don't know if it's OK to delete this stuffs or
    not Th

  14. Hi,
Have a look in the Settings App
    Updates & Recovery
    and then the Backup option

It sounds like the Backup using File History is turned on and is using your external drive for this

With this option on it keeps various backups of all your files, incase you need to get older versions back
