  1. OneDrive causing excessively high CPU usage/constant updating

I've seen this subject time after time and have had problems with it myself for months. Multiple calls/eMails to support have yielded nothing but frustration time after time.

I HAD a paid support package with a third-party support group which also could not correct the problem. In fact, the last support session, before I terminated the support, told me to contact Microsoft.

I did, one last time, and was informed, gee, we don't know what it is... contact OneDrive support (which I had multiple times).

At that point, I decided to dig and found something interesting. My Music folder, on OneDrive (345 Gb) had hundreds of MP3 files with embedded WWW or URL addresses in the file name. (John Prine - Sweet Revenge - 05 - Blue Umbrella - www.torrentazos.com.mp3).

I had earlier ran into a set of MP3's from Eric Clapton that had some of this and noticed that OneDrive seemed to be "Looping", trying to constantly update them. I removed the offending URL and the problem seemed to go away.

It wasn't until after 3-4 updates of OneDrive ago that things degenerated horribly. I have an Intel Quad Core (2.1Ghz) with 8 Gb of ram that was running at 26%-36% of total CPU capacity. My system response was ridiculously slow. The only way I could get much done was to download the files I wanted from OneDrive, shut it down and then do my work. Then, of course, I had to start OneDrive back up to allow the files to Sync.

I eliminated All external links on folder and file names using Agent Ransack to locate the offending names and then the "Multi-Rename" function of Free Commander XE to modify the Folder/File names.

I Don't know if there is an easier way but it worked. The CPU usage is 0% - 3% at idle WITH OneDrive running. System response is sweet again!

I contacted OneDrive support after I was done and they stated that you should never have a "Live" link associated with a OneDrive File.

Hope this can be of help to someone.

Agent Ransack and Freecommander XE are both ferr, virus free downlloadable utilities.

  2. WIN10 1703 update cause Explorer.exe high CPU usage

    Hi,

Glad you reached out. First, we would like to know if Explorer.exe
is the only cause of high CPU usage. Because the common cause of high CPU usage are the following:

    - Windows 10 Memory leak after the update.

    - Driver incompatibilities after the update.

    - Multiple startup applications

We'll be waiting for your update.

  4. OneDrive causing excessively high CPU usage/constant updating

cpu usage high internet slow windows 7

Brevity can be a virtue but it can also be counter-productive.

    • Which application demands excessive CPU resources?
    • What would you like to ask?
