  1. OneDrive in build 9879

This is a mess imo! Before you had the OneDrive app and you had a OneDrive folder that you saw in File Explorer.

Now only the OneDrive folder is there and it only shows those files/folders that are available online and offline. While that is fine as far as it goes, if you need a file that you've got in a non-sync mode at your OneDrive web area, you have to use the browser to get to it at all.

That just isn't good at all imo and the only thing I think it will result in is less use of OneDrive for those things you want to keep but don't need instant access to. Or for those things that won't fit on your SSD equipped unit.

I'm not happy at all with this change and have provided feedback to MS about it.

    :)

  2. Onedrive on Windows 10

You can map your OneDrive as a network drive. You will need your CID ID which I had to find in the source code of the page as it wasn't displayed in the browser (F12+Ctrl F "CID" or "vcid"). Its not perfect, but seems to be working. I found the steps

  3. No OneDrive placeholders on WIn 10?

    Work Around Instructions

This works great.. a work around...not perfect. but ok

1 Sign-in to your OneDrive account in your web browser

    2 Click on Files

3 From the address bar copy the CID ID. This is the part of the URL after
“?cid=”. The URL looks something like this: OneDrive. In this case, I will copy the this part
    “d1sareageat38asde9ec6”.

4 Open File Explorer and go to This
    PC

5 From the ribbon menu, go to Computer, and then click
    Map
    Network
    Drive

6 In the Folder field type the following address:

  5. I was hoping there was a way to just turn it off entirely, but it doesn't appear that there is. It's not listed under "Turn on or off Windows Features", and turning it off in Group Policy Editor doesn't do anything either.

  6. Can you just not sync anything?

Probably would complain every time you started though.

When I did my last upgrade onto my SurfacePro, I told it which folders to sync. It complained about already existing files and folders and I did what it said an deleted them in the local folder.

Then the damned thing proceeded to wipe out much of what I had online instead of resyncing it like it said it would. Fortunately for me I'm anal about backups and had all the stuff on another drive here at home.

  7. Yeah, I've tried not syncing anything, but it does nag me on each boot. It's just annoying.

  8. OneDrive in build 9879

Have you tried just uninstalling it

Onedrive in this build is not built into the OS like it was in 8.1, its just the app that was used in 7 and 8.0

  10. I noticed that they said they didn't like the way they built the placeholders.

But then I thought, if you don't like how you built them, why not do it differently?

Personally I liked the way it was, and I surely loved the modern OneDrive app and used it quite often. I would think they could do what they are doing with File Explorer and OneDrive and keep the app. But I keep thinking in the back of my mind that the goal is to deprecate the 'modern ui' more and more until it is gone.

Bad move IMO. The desktop is wonderful on bigger screens but well and truly sucks on a 10" Surface Pro and alikes!
