OneDrive with local account vs Microsoft account

I have windows 10 pro on my desktop computer and 2 laptops. All 3 are using a local account. I also use onedrive and sync across all three devices. All 3 devices have the same login name and same passeord. Basically no matter which machine i use, everthing is as close as i can get it to being the same. Everything seems to sync just fine. Is there any reason i need or should switch to a microdoft account instead of a local account? Im not quite understanding the benefits or disadvantages if i change all 3 to my microsoft account. Can someone give me a quick or detailed run down of why i should or shouldnt continue to just use these 3 devices with local accounts?

Some probably wonder why i have 3 computers. Desktop stays home, nice to work on big screen. One surface laptop stays at my office and one surface pro travels with me. Yeah i know, why not one laptop and use it everywhere? I guess i like to be difficult. I really dont know.

thanks for any clairity on this.

    :)

  2. Windows 8 with 2 Microsoft accounts?

Yea, I would create a local account and just use your school account to login to Outlook and Onedrive.

    Edit:

Here switch between local and microsoft account.

Windows 8 with 2 Microsoft accounts?

I was thinking of doing that, but it will be a PITA setting everything up on the 2nd account again. I might go that way and just spend the time getting the account in order.

The problem is, I would need to switch at the start of every day. Extra reset and waiting for the settings to be applied etc. Also, I'm not sure whether one drive would be maintained after switching back to a local account. I wouldn't want to have to re-sync every time I logged in. I may have to do some testing to see if onedrive is maintained after switching back to a local account.

  4. OneDrive with local account vs Microsoft account

    Local vs Network user accounts

I just did a VM install, just to verify that I don't speak total crap.

    Steps I took:

    1. Installed Windows 10 Pro x64 Build 15063.0
    2. Entered the License Key
    3. Created a local account
    4. Went to accounts and added my Microsoft account
    5. Let Windows use this account for all apps
    6. Checked status on Microsoft account web page.
    7. Verified that the VM shows up there
    8. deleted my VM locally
    9. created a new VM installation without entering the License Key (on same VM but totally new Virtual disk)
    10. re-did steps 3-7
    11. verified that my VM is activated.

And indeed it is activated and I login to my VM using local account which is linked to my MS account. OneDrive with local account vs Microsoft account :)

Should I create a Video of this or do you trust my word on it? Or better yet test it yourself if you have a valid license key you can waste on a VM.
