Windows 10: OneNote crash when drawing shapes more than 3 seconds

We need to clarify some information first for us to better assist you on your OneNote concern. Kindly answer these questions:

Are you using OneNote 2016 or the built-in OneNote app of Windows 10?

If you're using OneNote 2016, what is the full version number of your Office. To determine the version of your Office, follow the steps
here.

Can you please provide us the step-by-step process on how you're attempting to draw in OneNote using the touchscreen?

You have the Fresh Paint app(available on store) to do that and no, unfortunately you still can't draw using the OneNote app on your phone.

As for suggestions, use the feedback app on your phone to send them to MS.

Surface Pro 3 + Windows 10 + OneNote Desktop = FAIL

Hi Tracey,

Thanks for the quick response! You really threw me for a loop though - the two versions use different drawing systems so I didn't expect them both to have the same problem.

Let's check a few more things:

The Pen that comes with the Surface Pro 3 has two buttons near the tip - one for right-click and one for erase. Assuming that you're using the default Pen, does the erase button work in the programs where you
are able to draw?

Yes. The back-most button erases in all programs (both OneNotes and Paint).

If you hold down the right-click button (which should be on all Surface Pens), does the lasso tool activate or are you still stuck with the eraser?

In OneNote 2013, the back-most button activates the lasso tool. Front-most button erases. Same in "Immersive" OneNote.

In OneNote, when the Pen is in erase mode, does it actually erase pre-existing drawings (you might be able to make some using Draw with Touch - see below) or does it just show the eraser symbol and do nothing?

It does erase pre-existing drawings. Draw with Touch works in both versions

If you use Draw with Touch (in the Draw section of the ribbon in both versions), are you able to draw in either version of OneNote? If so, does your Pen erase what you've drawn with touch?

I have now turned on Draw with Touch, and the Pen now draws in both versions of OneNote!!! Something has shaken loose here!

If you have Windows Journal installed (it's included with many, but not all, Windows systems), you should be able to launch it from the Start menu. If that works, are you able to draw and erase in Windows Journal?

I do have Windows Journal (thanks! I didn't know about this application!) I can draw and erase in it with the pen.

Thanks for asking! It seems like, at least for now, the pen is working as it should. The remaining issue, launching OneNote Desktop with the pen button, is all that remains a problem. I appreciate your help. I hope the information I'm providing helps you
to fix the problems other users are having, and helps you to identify where the issues are originating so they can be repaired.
