  1. Ongoing 1803/1809 Upgrade Issues

For the past month and a half I've been rolling out 1803 to my organization. About 20%-30% of the computers will fail though and it is almost always the same issue: 0xC1900101-0x4000D - Install failed in the SECOND BOOT phase with an error during the MIGRATE DATA operation. I've provided a copy of a log from one device at the bottom. I've tried just about every plausible fix action listed that I've been able to find. There is also no commonality between all the computers that do not take the update.

    Troubleshooting steps I've taken:

    • sfc /scannow (not like this ever even fixes anything)
    • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    • Reset Windows Update Components
    • Using the Windows Media Creation Tool
    • Updated BIOS & all drivers

Right now I'm out of ideas but still have lots of computers on hand that will not take the update. A clean install is not an option due to the amount of computers we have. I'm looking for new angles to attack this problem from and hope that some fresh eyes may shed some light on my issue.

  2. Skip 1803 and get 1809.

Yes, there is an ongoing issue with Dell Alienwares on 1803. When 1809 gets released, update to it(Probably in October)

How to rollback from 1809 to 1803.

    Hi Wickiwiz,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

To get clarity of this issue and assist you with appropriate troubleshooting steps, kindly reply with the answers to the questions below.

    1. What is the make and model of your system?
    2. When was the system upgraded to1809?
You would be able to revert back to previous windows within the first ten days after the upgrade installed, you can Downgrade Windows 10 1809 to 1803 using the recovery options. However, if you performed clean installation
you would not be able to rollback to earlier build version of windows 10.

Follow the below steps, if you have upgrade your Windows 10 within 10 days.

    1. Open Windows Settings using
      Windows + I keyboard.
    2. Click on Update & Security then
      Recovery on the left.
    3. Now click on Get started under ‘Go back to the previous version of Windows 10.
    4. This will prompt why you are going back to the previous build, With Options
    • My apps or devices don’t work on this build
    • Earlier builds seemed easier to use
    • Earlier builds seemed faster
    • Earlier builds seemed more reliable
    • For another reason
    5. Select any preferred answer or Select for another Reason (also there is option to tell Microsoft more about your reasons if you wish) and click
    Next to continue.

    6. When you click on next Windows 10 will prompt you the chance to check for updates in case that a new update is available to fix the current issue you’re having.

    7. If you’ve decided to roll back, click
No, thanks to continuing the rollback processed.

    8. On Next Screen Read What you need to know carefully.

    9. This will instruct you after going back you need to
    reinstall some apps, programs.

    10. Also, lose any changes you have made after upgrade to windows 10 October 2018 update.

    11. After reading this carefully click next to proceed one more step to Uninstall Windows 10 version 1809.

    12. Now Windows 10 will remind you that you need to know the password of the user account in the previously installed operating system ( windows 10 1803).

    13. Click Go back to earlier build to begin the windows 1809 rollback process.

    14. And the setup will take over and roll back your PC to the previous version of Windows 10 version 1809.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Regards,

    Ongoing 1803/1809 Upgrade Issues

    Upgrade 1803 -> 1809 Failed & No Longer Available

    Hello

I'm looking for a bit of help. I'm trying to upgrade my Windows 10 however the installation keeps failing. Current version is 1803 and trying to go to 1809. When the install reaches 42% the PC locks up and I have to restart, causing it to roll back to 1803.
After a few attempts the updates says everything is up-to-date, however the PC is still at 1803.

Looking around on various places there's a few things I've tried:

    • Removing antivirus + malware (Avira + Malwarebytes).
    • Unplugging all non-essential USB devices.
    • Updated GFX drivers to latest.
    • Ran the Windows Update Assistant.
All sadly to no avail. Thoughts? I can provide logs if needed (although please advise which ones are required and how to locate them)

    Regards,
