    Hi geeks.

Generally speaking I am not a friend of these tuning and optimizing tools. I have not found a single utility to optimize my PC which does something I cannot do manually by myself.

However, for those who like this kind of apps, check this offer out: Get Glary Utilities Pro for Windows for free - CNET

    From the CNET article:

Terms and conditions of this offer:
    • This is a 1-computer lifetime license, for home use
    • No free updates
    • No free tech support
    • Must be downloaded, installed, and registered before this offer is over -- you cannot register later
    • May not be resold
    • No refunds and exchanges; if you are having trouble activating or registering, please ask for help

At the moment of me writing this at 14:15 (2:15 PM) CET on 20-March-2015 the offer is still available for 1 day 17 hours. Check the ShareWare on Sale site for exact details.

    :)

does my win10 I down loaded expire?

No. If you upgraded your computer during the free upgrade program then the license for Windows 10 is valid for the lifetime of that device.

It was only the free offer that was limited to the year, not Windows itself.

A bad product is a bad product. Offering if for free changes nothing.

My objection to this product is based only on general principles not on any specific knowledge.

  7. I have been using Glary Utilities free for years, have been happy with it, and prefer it infinitely to CCleaner (I use CCleaner only for wiping and torture testing HDDs). However, other than some functions being automated (ones I would rather use manually so I can decide if I want deletions to happen or not) and scans being faster (it's already pretty fast), I see little incentive to get the Pro, even if the license is free and lifetime. Also, CNET is a dodgy source for downloads.

A lot of people automatically distrust registry cleaners (usually for good reason). As a registry cleaner, however, Glary Utilities is very conservative, deleting only entries that point to nowhere. You can pick and choose what scans you want it to do in its 1-Click maintenance; I only use the Registry Cleaner, the Spyware Remover (it never finds anything because I don't run Glary until after I've done my other malware scans but it's a nice backup), Temporary Files Cleaner, and Startup Manager. I don't use Shortcuts Fixer (it deletes empty folders I don't always want deleted), Disk Repair (don't trust it), and Tracks Eraser (I prefer to do that manually within my browser). Advanced tools include a Startup Manger (much easier to use than Windows'), Context Menu Manager, Uninstall Manager (better than Windows' but not as aggressive as CCleaner), Software Update Checker and Updater (the Updater is optional), plus many more. I use only a fraction of the tools offered.

Just guessing but I think Adam thinks about this subject a bit like me.

Various tune-up and optimization suites usually do nothing you couldn't do without them. In many cases these apps just take your money doing nothing or even worse, messing up your PC so that a clean install is often the only way to get system back as it was.

Not to speak about the registry cleaners which really can cause harm. Of course this is a subjective matter, each user having their own opinion. Personally I have never "cleaned" the Windows registry since XP, not manually nor using any third party cleaners. Of course I have edited registry sometimes, for instance sysprepping an upgraded Windows needs two values changed in registry but that's all I have done. Yet, I have never had a single issue caused by registry.

Well. This is a chance to try it. You can easily wipe the Tech preview build if anything is untoward.

In the past, it used to work far too aggressively, out of the box, for the average user.
You really had to study and tweak settings before you let it go nuts on your system.
However, I have not used it in quite some time.

  11. Really? I find the free version to be quite the opposite.

  12. The free version of Glary Utilities doesn't take your money and actually does something. Most of its functions can be done in Windows but Glary's UI is much simpler to use.

One can always avoid having to a clean reinstall simply by making an image prior to making any changes or running a program that might make fatal changes. An image restore is much faster and easier than a reinstall.

    You may be right.
I should confess, I haven't used it for ages so, perhaps my opinion carries no weight!
My apologies, I will edit my previous post. *Smile

It isn't a matter of being able to do it yourself. In most cases you'd be better off not doing it at all.

Now if you want to defragment and clean your registry, clean your RAM, disable pre-fetch, change the size of your page file, set random services to manual because blackviper said to do so XP, make a RAM-disk and force kernel modules into memory then by all means go ahead. At best you'll end up with a system that doesn't perform much worse than it would anyway (although it will be less stable) and at least you're not harming anyone else and hopefully having fun.

Read my post you quoted again. I was not talking about this offer, which by the way is the full Pro version. I was talking about various tune-up utilities in general.

Of course I know this one offer "does not take your money". I'm the OP of this thread, I posted the freebie offer although personally objecting the type of software it represents but because I thought some users might want to test it.

Somehow I have to admire the way you quite often take words of me and some other members totally out of the context and twist their meaning. That's quite an easy although not so clever way to get an argument where no argument is needed.
