OOKLA speed tests totally different on IE and Firefox !!!

    Hi there
on IE I get a MUCH faster result from OOKLA than with Firefox -- same server for test. Seems a lot of work is done by Firefox in loading ads or whatever which undoubtedly effects the results.

Anybody else notice speed difference using SAME server but with different browsers.

    Cheers

How do I check my internet speed?

    speed test - Recherche Google

Ookla seems popular, first result in above search.

just go to the site, click begin test, no need to install an app.

Just to check using FF....Yes it different for me to. In the top left corner it says "Beta". It's crazy different....but so freaking cool. I like it. In Chrome it's the old version. The results are almost identical for me and using 2 different servers from 2 different states.

I wonder why the Beta on Firefox?

OOKLA speed tests totally different on IE and Firefox !!!

I don't get different results with different browsers, but I always get different results with a flash based test than I do with a HTML5 based test. The good news though is that they are consistently different it's always 71mbs on HTML5 and always 75mbs on flash so at least I can see if it's better or worse.

Also my ISP provide a direct speedtest link to their own servers, that always agrees with the flash version (it's flash based itself)

The odd things is it's the other way around with upstream, upstream is always faster by a few mbs with HTML5 based testers than with flash !

    Hi there

    Different results again again ???
    Something is telling me lies.

OK I'm at extremity of reception on a crowded 2.4 GHZ wifi while doing test but it's on SAME COMPUTER !!!!!.

Firefox -- very slow ping --I'm sure it's something to do with zillions of adverts / sites giving data to who knows whom

Maybe try downloading the same large file in either browser and keep an eye on the download speed, that may give you a better picture of your true download speed ?

I don't pay much attention to speed testers, other than if I notice a slow down in general browsing or downloading, and I only use them of a comparison to the speed I normally get on that site.

The difference is relative small, it is only 18%, so I would not give so much importance.
Anyway, one should take in consideration the Caches that are always in place.
The best way to test is using the many Windows built-in information, like the one in Windows Explorer, Performance in Task Manager or even the Ressource Monitor. They are accurate and give the information one need.

OOKLA speed tests totally different on IE and Firefox !!!

    HI there
    @Adalwar

Thanks for the info -- 18% could be significant --especially now more and more 4K UHD Video is becoming available -- dread to think what happens when we go to 8K video --today's high speed fibre internet will collapse !! even 1Gib/s might not be sufficient - and with zillions of users !!.

Netflix and SKY have a few things in 4K - most premier league football (round ball version) is available in 4K now.

    Cheers

    Hi there

    Thanks

I suspect that perhaps my Firefox is riddled with adware --seems analysing it loads 10 zillion sites plus "adclick" or whatever

    Totally removed.

Chrome reports similar to IE 11. Now marking as solved.

Linux Firefox --fine -- same as Windows but Windows FF --totally ridiculous result --from same server within seconds shouldn't have a variation of 18% --Would you use a plane if the reliability varied by 18 % --maybe some would but I think I'd stay on the ground in that situation. !!!!!

    Cheers
