Windows 10: Open Attachments in Windows 10 Mail without saving

I've searched all over and can't find an answer to this. How can I open an attachment e.g., PDF in Windows 10 Mail without saving it.

Right clicking the attachment gives the option to "Open" or "Save" but clicking either pulls up a window to save the file in Documents.

Windows 10 mail image attachments cant "save as"

As you are facing issue with the Windows 10 mail image attachments.

We have figured out and recognized that, you will not find option to
Save, print or move except the Copy option available for the Windows 10 mail image attachments.

Hence I suggest you to provide the feedback as this is by latest design;

Step on how to provide feedback

• Open the image you want to copy or save.
• Click on Settings.
• Right hand side select the feedback option and provide feedback for the same.

Mail app will not open on 10041.

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it.

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

• Open powershell as administrator
• Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
• Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)

 

Windows mail will only save attachement

On one of my Windows 10 computers, Windows Mail will not allow me to open directly an attachment. On double click, the save dialogue appears. On right click and open, the save dialogue appears.

I want to be able to directly open attachments (I know it saves in a temporary folder, that's not the point).

There are plenty posts on the Microsoft forums discussing this. I am not posting them here so no one is tempted to waste time going over them, but Google will list a graveyard of dead ends.

This is not ubiquitous behavior. One possible related piece of information is that I have McAfee DLP Endpoint and McAfee Management of Native Encryption installed on said computer - I must keep these, so if these are the reason for the problem it would be useful to stop my search (I can't uninstall to check).

I also have no problem changing

which is where my working computer saves temporary attachments.
