Windows 10: Open desktop icon with a right click then use the Open menu item

After the latest feature update to my Win 10, if I right click on any desktop icon and try and open the app with the Open command, there is no response. I can still open the app with a double mouse click. Some setting seems to have changed with the upgrade?

Remove Linux Desktop Icons

I am not sure whether this will work (Ubuntu does not have icons like that on the desktop by default), but I suggest opening the trash bin and sweeping the icons into the window showing the trash bin.

I successfully created a new administrator account per your instructions. I accessed the desktop and the problem remains. I cannot open some desktop shortcuts and the same list of start menu items in the original post.

• Does the issue still the same when using another mouse? How about using your mouse on another computer?
• Is it also possible to send us a screenshot when the white square box appears after you double click the desktop icon?

Windows has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with hardware and devices. We would suggest that you run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your mouse.

Refer these steps:

• Press Windows key +X, select Control panel
• Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons
• Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel
• Run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter
