  1. Opening a Word doc also opens 2nd window read only

This is inconsistent, but lately when I open a Word doc via File Explorer (in WIndows 10), it will sometimes also attempt to open a 2nd window with a Read Only or File in Use error. When I click cancel, there is a blank window. (The file has already correctly opened in a 1st window.) From what I've been reading, I think this may be due to using preview in File Explorer. I'd rather not turn off preview - and I'm not sure that's even the problem.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks

    :)

Opening a Word doc in a Second Desktop from Explorer

Thank you so much for your reply!

To clarify, the problem is that whenever I try to open another word doc in file explorer in a second desktop it goes back to the desktop in which there already is a word doc open and opens the requested doc there, instead of in the second desktop.

I have tried the repair and it did not help. Any other suggestions?

Word has gone after reinstalling Windows 10 and word docs won't open

    Hi Nathaniel

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes I did check for updates and updated all that was availbale. Office/Word did not appear.

There was no error message when I tried to open my docs (which showed as blanks at first) but word pad was the only program on offer when I tried to open my word docs but this didn't work either (just symbols appeared).

I checked the article you suggested. It offered me Office AT $148.

As a "getaround" I downloaded Libre Office from Linux and it opens my word docs just fine, but this does not solve my problem of course.

Any other suggestions would be welome.

    Barry

    OneDrive and open Word docs

Okay, so I am using the native OneDrive app for my cloud storage.
Now let's say I am working on a Word doc, (in Office 2016, i.e., I am using the regular desktop Office suite), and I have the doc open for a couple hours straight.
In the course of that time, I make a lot of changes, and I want those changes to sync to the cloud, so my doc will be backed up.
So how do I do that?
It seems like as long as the Word doc is open, OneDrive will not sync changes to the cloud, even if I hit the save button in Word.
    Am I doing something wrong?
